BRIARD, yeah. Miss World CD with bonus track is really good. Better than Pelle. They re-pressed a Briard 45 too. All Finnish imports though Im afraid.

There's a short interview with  Brett Smiley , by Greg Prevost , in the new Ugly Things....I did'nt know his proposed album was finally released in '03. I thought he was dead , but , then I found out he's still in NYC , PERFORMING WHEN HE'S PHYSICALLY ABLE (HE HAS HIV , BUT , NOT FULL BLOWN AIDS) ..... Well , of course , "Schlong Rock" would have to start with Black Oak Arkansas , then Iggy Pop , in general ,and , well , I don't go around lookin' at 'em too much , to tell the truth. GPH member and Battlefraynt , James Porter , interviewed Syl Sylvain , and had the nuts to ask him "Did you and Johnny stuff for that picture onthe backof the first Dolls ALBUM?" , TO WHICH HE REPLIED "DID WE STUFF?! JOHNNY WAS ITALIAN , AND I'M JEWISH ! OF COURSE WE DID'NT STUFF !!!". THERE YA GO.  Syl also told me a cop confronted Johnny , because he was wearing that same red leather suit in that photo. The Policeman thought Johnny had a bag of POT down his pants, when he saw the lengthy protrusion , and demanded that he take his pants off . "AH AIN'T GAAHHT NO UNDAWEAH !!!" , PROTESTED THUNDERS. THE COP SAID , DROP 'EM , JUST THE SAME . AND BOY , WAS HE SORRY HE DID ! He probably can't even look at the elephants in the zoo , anymore .

Briard? was that Andy and Michael Monroe's early band? I heard they were great , bu t, I've never actually heard them

Andy Mccoy s band briard I thought was a punk gem as well. Tuff to the songs from the other finnish album he did pre-hanoi. Still searching it out(no home internet which which makes this quite the task) .Theres some fuzzy youtube vids though.

Here's the link to the playlist when my friend and I did a glam special back on Feb. 10, 2011, a few months after this thread got started (wow it's been that long?).

      http://laterisersclub.org/?paged=29

I don't think anyone here tuned in even tho I advertised it but we had a great time. She's on the day before me so I tried not to repeat too many bands, thus no Brett Smiley and some others but a pretty diverse group of stuff I think. Would have played Smack but had done them for our special on Nordic rock, so they missed the Glam show.

Whatever happened to Nasty Suicide? Seems all the  surviving ex - members , barring him (And Gyp Casino .) have turned up again.....I have , I think , the first Suicide Twins album (On Tape - 0ld School!) , but I forget the name. I have'nt listened to it in over 20 years. Did'nt do much for me. Maybe I'd like it better , now.

No connection at all to 80's metal. Their name is from a Mott the Hoople song. They started by getting together once a week to listen to their 70's vinyl (Alex Harvey, T Rex, the NY glam/punk scene, ie The Dolls, The Heartbreakers, The Voidoids, etc.). I don't really see where you got Faster Pussycat, but I guess we all hear things the way we hear them.

Oh you are SO right about that Giuda LP, total 70's glam throwback done really well. Was available on Deadbeat and worth picking up for all the people in this discussion.

Tyler, do you know or are you associated with Varsity Weirdos and Fear of Lipstick? Tom from Moncton whose label I'm spacing on sent me those, good stuff. I  even hung out at the Laundromat!

      The Fnords ,

There were two different groups , The New Order , and , later , The New Race.

The New Order , based in LA ( With several posthumous releases ) was made up of Ron Asheton and Dennis Thompson (Also both in New Race , who were very briefly based in Australia , in the early 80's  , with Deniz Tek , Rob Younger , and , I think , Pip Hoyle(?) from Radio Birdman.) , along with Jimmy Recca and Scott Thurston (Both ex- Stooges), and a couple of different singers , including Warwick Gilbert (sic) from The Amboy Dukes. They formed not long after The Stooges broke up , and even got Iggy to sit in , once . They were being courted for a major record deal , but , the story goes , Gilbert got high on Angel Dust , and blew it ,completely. The other guys , reportedly , beat the crap out of him. I mentioned The New Order in the same breath as these uninspiring LA METAL BANDS (I almost forget L.A. Guns.), because the band was more stripped down Metal - Rock than Proto - Punk , unfortunately , but they had potential. Their other singer was more suited to the band , anyway.

The Stooges/MC5 supergroup was called New Race, and also had members that had been in Radio Birdman.

Hanoi Rocks were ace, but "self-destruction blues" kind of sums up their inevitable demise, sadly.

I remember when The LA bands started getting more press in the 80's. Bands like Faster Pussycat , Poison , Guns 'n' Roses , and already - old guard bands , like Motley Crue , all that stuff , people were calling it the second coming of The New York Dolls. I still can't get my mind around THAT one. Hanoi Rocks were the only band I could think of that really carried on in the spirit of The Dolls , while maintaining their own unique sound. They got lumped in with Heavy Metal , just because they had long hair and wore makeup. It's true , they were a band that was cool to reference during the LA 80's Metal Scene , but , I did'nt hear their influence in any of those acts , even though Michael Monroe and Sam Yaffa  (Hanoi Rocks' Singer and Bassist.)were based in L.A. at the time (Yaffa joined the locally popular Jet Boy. Their record just scared me.). There may have been lesser known bands that "Got it" , but , when I went to L.A. in '87 , if you were'nt playing BUTT ROCK , you were'nt gigging. The Rockabilly and Garage scenes that city was known for were virtually nonexistent , and ,it only got worse in the ensuing years that I went there.

I mighjt have been able to dig some of that 80's Metal , wherever it was being played , if it had just been RAW....oh , YEAH , AND Heavy. Listen to Killer Kane and Blackie Lawless' band , Killer Kane , or the commercially unsuccessful Stooges/MC5 "Supergroup" , The New Order (Both bands were based in LA) . Even if it's too Metal for YOU , IT WAS RAW.

I neve really got into Motley Crue at all , but , their first album had that crust....but , only , because it was comprised of demos.

What was being called Glam or even Metal , generally was'nt.....Now there's a name for it , BUTT ROCK , thank you.
