Can anybody suggest some good ones?  I'm mainly interested in print, but online are also cool.

I don't mean stuff like MRR which seems more hardcore punk and political oriented.

Stuff that focuses on garage, garage-punk, surf etc. is what I want.

The best I've found so far are both from Greece.  Lost in Tyme and Rumble Skunk.  They are both great and have tons of content, but only seem to come out once or twice a year.

Hey Gunther, Cool that you got to see that notorious Pistols/Nervebreakers show. The issue has now been out for a few months. You can order it at www.ugly-things.com Cheers, Mike Gunther Toody said:
That is so cool that you are doing an article about the Nervebreakers. I used to see them all the time back in the day, including their infamous warm-up for the Sex Pistols and subsequent photos in ROLLING STONE of Barry Kooda and that fish. Guitarist Mike Haskins is one the coolest nicest guys ever...not to mention a great guitarist.
Also looking forward to the Jon Savage interview with Ray Davies!

It's a KINKS special including an extensive interview with Ray Davies by Jon Savage (done in '83/'84 but mostly unpublished before now). Also featured: the Masters Apprentices, the Hysterics, the Nervebreakers & more. Order it at www.ugly-things.com

And yeh, shameless self-promotion: check out my zine! www.mongrelzine.ca Roctober just gave us an awesome review ("But thank god (or Link or Lux, or whomever you worship) for Mongrel! We are grateful that a zine like this comes along and shows us how it’s done, not only tracking down all the stellar new jack garage combos but also delivering the goods with great interviews, zine-esque layouts, and lotsa goofs and giggles. They even cover garage rock visual artists (like our own Johnny Sampson) and include killer CDs of mongrel music makers making messes of the masses. WOW! That Punk Zine archive is something else and all the early issues. Thanks for posting that. kopper said:
I know Gearhead reviews new stuff, but I think they only review stuff they like. In other words, if they don't like it, they just won't review it. That bothers me to no end. I wanna read the negative reviews as well as the positive, so I know what to avoid as well as what to look for.

I used to do a 'zine with some local folks here in St. Louis called Head in a Milk Bottle... this was back in the early 2000s. It had originally existed in the mid-1980s and we brought it back to life, but then it only lasted two issues. The third issue was finished, but was never printed. I'm hoping to put this all online eventually. The editor/publisher was Bob Thurmond of the Snake Alley podcast... and I'm still waiting for Bob to get me all the files from that 3rd issue so I can put it online. Bob's a nice guy and everything, but there's a reason why is nickname is "Slack."

ChinMusic was a pretty cool 'zine that combined baseball and punk rock (some garage stuff, too). Then there was Motorcycho which is about garage punk and motorbikes. Then there was Multiball, which combined punk rock and pinball! And I don't think anyone's mentioned John Holmstrom's PUNK magazine. John's putting out a "Best of PUNK" book that looks like it'll be worth having.

Does anyone remember a 'zine called Probe? I think it was around mostly during the '90s, but was pretty great. Featured pics of nekkid people and punk rock. I only have one or two issues, but they were kinda doing what Horizontal Action did later.

Also, check this out: Punk Zine Archive

There's a very small free subcultural zine in upstate NY called Outsider, they feature all kinds of punk including garage, psychobilly etc. and also focus on hot rods and tattoos.
http://www.myspace.com/outsiderzine What I'd be interested in knowing is which zines review new garage punk releases. It seems to me that some publications like Ugly Things focus only on established groups from the original 60's era or 80's revival bands while others like Lost in Tyme review stuff by current underground bands as well.

Anyway...Not a fanzine but I only just discovered Shindig. Not as awesome as Ugly Things but cool. I use to like things like Cryptic Times, Bad Vibes, Bad Trip, Psychedelicitesen, and Garage and Beat (but this was so long ago).

Thanks for the responses people. I actually have a few old issues of Rocktober and Ugly Things. I didn't even realize they were still going. I remember I had the Rocktober "History of Masked Rock n Roll" issue which was really cool.

I'll check out the rest too. Thanks in advance to anybody else who adds something.

I'd 2nd the nod to MRR....lately they've been doing more current garagepunk stuff and also covering some of the 77 punk that seems to be getting a bit more interest lately with some of the original bands reuniting. On the present scene there's Mongrel Zine out of Vancouver: http://www.mongrelzine.ca/ But i might be kinda biased on this one as i write for it...LOL...they cover lots of garagepunk, cool art and the last 5 issues have also come with a really cool comp CD. There's also Lost In Tyme from Greece: http://www.myspace.com/lostintymefanzine Again, i might be biased as i write for this one too. This covers some 60's garage, lots of 80's garage and some current 60's style garage bands. Also comes with a really cool comp CD. And like Alex says above, Ugly Things and Shindig are DEFINITELY worth getting... There's a few others out there as well. and
