I was wondering when someone was going to get around to Roky Erickson. Buddy Randell (The Knickerbockers) has a great scratchy howl as well.

No one beats Roslie. But, Bob Ledbetter from the Villians has some classic screams in Don't Ever Leave Me.

Gotta be Screaming Jay Hawkins and Screaming Lord Sutch. I mean, hell it is part of their names!

I also really dig the screams in the Sonics 'Psycho'.

I love the "Owww!" at the beginning of The Oblivians "Pin Stripe Willie" Not sure which one of them sings that song as I can never tell Greg and Eric apart unless I'm actually watching them sing. Jack on the other hand sounds way diffrent than the later two.

Lots of killer screams in rock n roll! Sonics, Wailers, Stooges, Mummies, tons of em! But, here's a list of the most distinguished unusual screamers...Roky Ericson--- madman scream like Jay Hawkins/ Lord Sutch--- with supreme eyes of satan FIRE!! truely a uninhibited wilderness of crazy! Larry May--Candy Snatchers, insane scream from the fine shires of hell. And my most recent favorite and unusual scream goes to the guy from The Keepers on the track "U and I don't belong"---a slight hesitation followed by a roar that would be hard to duplicate! Truely Remarkable

I guess that's why they call them opinions. Damos Kalaitzidis said:

Yeah I was gonna say Iggy too. Especially on "TV Eye", god damn that song is wild. He does sound like a bobcat on that one. Funhouse in general is crazy (in a good way). Best fucking rock 'n' roll record of all time, wildest one too. Also on "Search and Destroy" towards the end "heeeey heeey heeeey heeey yea yea yea yea yaaayye yayeeee! yayee!.."

Also, (besides Iggy) within the protopunk, punk, and rock n roll, but not exactly garage rock, genre I want to include Richard Hell -- he's more of a "Wooow!" and "Yeoow!"screamer though, think "Down at the Rock & Roll Club" (when he says "Scotch and soda! Yeow!" and later on too, he says "Woooow!" and "Yeoow!" like 5 more times in the song), not as loud and crazy as the aforementioned rock n roll screamers, but Richard does a good job at keeping it original and individual -- and the other guy I want to include besides Hell, is David Johansen baby!
"Aaaaaaaowww! "Yeaaah yeaah yeaa!" "Talking 'bout perrsonnalitee!"

I've been on a Wreckless Eric kick the past couple of days... He deserves to be on this list. He sounds like he has his foot stuck in a meat grinder when he gets going.
