Trying to get a live setup, but running a mic through a guitar pedal is giving off too much feedback. Thought about using a harmonica mic, but wasn't for sure if it would give enough distortion. Can anyone of ya give me a good tip on this? Or just let me know what you might be using.

We're often running the mics through an old peavey guitar amp for distorted vocals, which is a rather good solution for bigger stages, but a feedback hell on smaller ones. You just have to mic that amp for the PA and hide it far enough anywhere in the back. Good idea with the old cheap mics, we'll try that for smaller venues, thanks

The Boss Bass Overdrive ODB-3 is the best pedal I've found for this job - it let's you mix the clean sound through and doesn't feedback much.

I use a super cheap Lafayette Mic that was made in the sixties, instant distorted low fi tones because it cannot handle much else LOL. I sometimes set up one regular mic and then the old one for distortion effects and go between the two as the song warrants. Bob Log III, a low fi one man blues band sings with a motorcycle helmet on which has an old phone built into it, freakin awesome sound and it looks crazy too! Tight white's suggestion will work too, even little old solid state amps can work, the Guy from the Strokes I think sang through and old peavey.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

If you want to distort your voice live, you should use an equalizerbehind your distorsion. Just figure out wich frequence is doing the feedback, when it starts to yell turn that frequence(s) down until it's quiet. Maybe a bit much to use a zillion-band-equilizer, but let us know if it works for you!

Try running the mic into a small amp (10 watts max or an amp that has a speaker attenuator), crank the gain and then mic that amp. Another option is to use an overdrive pedal that has a tone control so you can roll off the high end.

You could try running it through a big muff pedal. As a bassist, I find it one of the most controlable pedals. Worth a try.
