Any Ellroy fans here? I just finished reading his latest, Blood's a Rover and, as expected, it's an epic motherfucker. I love how most his heroes are corrupt cops/rogue FBI agents who have the hots for lefty chicks. (Although Joan, the "Red Goddess" of this book made me miss Barb, the "Twist" singer/bimbo of American Tabloid and The Cold Six Thousand.)

For a while I worked as a procurer of rare and out of print books. I had to go to a boring library convention that made the mistake of asking him to do a reading. I believe it was around the time American Tabloid was released or some such, but the place was packed when he started.
And then he started talking. People fled that room like Satan was the guest presenter. By the time he finished it was myself and about ten others. We did get to hang out with him after and chat. Nice guy.

I thought it was pretty great. American Tabloid's still the best of the trilogy, however. Hopefully, it won't be another 8 years until his next book.
