What's your favorite garagepunk Xmas tunes?

The Fleshtones recently released a Christmas album called Stocking Stuffer that's not bad.

There's a new Little Steven's Undnerground Garage Christmas a Go Go collection. Like his show, there's really just a small portion of actual garage music there, but there's some fun stuff: Soupy Sales doing "Santa Claus is Surfing to Town" The Chesterfield Kings doing a Chuck Berryish song called "Hey Santa Santa," a cool Bob Seger tune called "Sock it To Me Santa." The best stuff here though are a couple of soul Santa songs: Rufus Thomas' "I'll Be Your Santa" and Clarence Carter's "Back Door Santa."

Last year there was an album called Christmas 1979 by Billy Childish (actually Wild Billy Childish & The Musicians Of The British Empire) I've downloaded a couple of those from eMusic.

And there's that classic Christmas song by The Sonics, "I Don't Believe in Christmas" and The Dirtbombs' "My Last Christmas."

      What else we got?

Christmas 1979 is the one I play on my turntable every Christmas now whilst consuming vast quantity's of strong ale. It's by far the best Christmas song ever! Mind you I quite like the instrumental "Christmas" by Gallon Drunk.

Great to see this discussion, which I started 2 years ago, revived. It's a Christmas miracle!

Eddie, I'm going to have to check out out your blog -- as well as those other links folks have posted here.

Spike, I love The Shitbirds' song. I used it in my latest podcast.

And speaking of shameless self promotion. If you haven't already, check out my latest Xmas podcast

      Play it here:

      Merry Christmas everyone!

i like The Shitbirds - Christmas is Coming and the Cannibals - Christmas Rock n Roll,

they're not a garage band but The Wildhearts did a version of White Christmas way back that ended up sounding pretty Garage punk.

This week I made my podcast a Christmas special and played loads of good Christmas songs, the above included and a few of the others people have mentioned like Black Lips and Detroit Junior, I hope you'll check it out :) *shameless plug*

The Reigning Sound xmas track "If Christmas Can't Bring You Home" is a good sad one.

Ronnie Spector is always good 'round this time of year, too.

And the Ramones "Merry Christmas I Don't Want to Fight"!

And, of course, hot off the presses: lo-fi garage rumble from (my own band)

Dear Hearts "The Only Thing I Get for Christmas is Blue" (here!)

Sorry, sorry, shameless, I know--but Christmas is almost over! And the song is free :)

I've been collecting punk, garage, glam-rock, oi, and new-wave christmas records for quite some time. This year my collection surpassed 300 records, and my research has given me a total of over 500 that exist (so far!) Needless to say I'm a xmas record fanatic. I post them up on my site for all to hear. I'm just getting started but there will be lots more coming every month. Please check it out and if you like it, post links to it and tell others all about it.

      Rock 'N' Roll Holiday - rnrholiday.blogspot.com

As far as my favorites for 2010, check out

      King Salami & The Cumberland 3 - Xmas a go go 7"

Shannon & The Clams - Ruin Christmas 7"

      really great records!

Los Straitjackets have picked up on the Ventures Christmas album idea (start off with a classic surf song and go into the melody of a Christmas carol) and have a full length and an EP in that sytle.  Many "normal" people can tolerate these.

Yea, I have a few other versions too, but I like it as it's one of the rawer versions, although Berry's will always have to be ranked at the top. Haven't heard the Fleshtone's version though, will check out the show, thanks.

Thanks for posting the MP3s, Mike. "Run Rudolph Run," originally by Chuck Berry, has been covered by lots of folks. It's on that new Fleshtones Xmas album and there's a version by Keith Richards on the new Little Steven's Underground Garage xmas compilation. The Rockin' Guys (an Arkansas band) also covered it many years ago. Check out my own Christmas podcast:
