Punk On The Peninsula 25th - 28th May
If you are looking for something completely different and off the beaten track for your next Punk Weekend then why not look at the increasingly popular Punk On The Peninsula, held in the beautiful coastal town of Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula on the banks of the stunning River Clyde?
Dunoon is a real hidden gem and people who have attended the festival over the past seven years, bands and fans alike, quite simply fall in love with the place, and the real bonus is it is only one hour away from Glasgow and Glasgow Airport, and incredibly easy to get to.
The views, the atmosphere, the peninsula, the town and the nearby beaches all give the event a holiday feeling. Far different from the normal corporate and city centre locations that usually host these events.
Famous acts have been singing the event’s praises: The Skids said they were blown away by the scene from the stage; the Cockney Rejects described it as the most stunning location they have ever played; RUTS DC said it's the most beautiful location for a festival and Peter & The Test Tubes commented that it's the best idea in years as people will buy tickets before they even know which bands are playing - they were right!
Whether driving to the festival by from Glasgow along the banks of Loch Lomond, Loch Fyne and the stunningly beautiful Loch Eck, or by driving from Glasgow to Gourock, just under thirty miles from Glasgow, and then jumping on the car ferry for a truly glorious twenty minute crossing of the river, whichever way you choose, you will be glad you made the effort by the time you arrive in the little seaside resort of Dunoon, it truly is an unforgettable experience.
People travelling by train can board one of the trains from Glasgow Central to Gourock and in under an hour, be dropped off on Gourock Pier, the last stop on the line, where a few yards away the twice hourly Passenger Ferry takes you across the glorious Firth of Clyde and drops you off at Dunoon Pier, a two-minute walk from the event!
With increasing numbers attending the festival from as far away as Australia, Canada and many Europe countries, the festival features some of the household names of the Punk World as well as a whole host of the unsung heroes of our scene and thoroughly deserve their day in the sun, and features not just out Punk acts but also a fair smattering of Celtic Punk, Folk and even Ska acts.
This year’s event on 25th to 28th May features three different venues including for the opening night the incredible setting of The Burgh Hall in the town’s main street, for the first time, then for the next three days, the main stage is situated on the pier on the banks of the river with absolutely breathtaking views.
In these testing financial times we have tried to help by offering ultra low prices for people wanting to camp, as well as having a limited number of cut price slots for people with Camper Vans.
