Their music is sometimes abstract and always intrusive and confrontational. Founded in 1988, Cheater Slicks began as a four piece that included a bass player – first with Merle Allin (GG’s brother) and then with Alpo (late great member of Real Kids). After a couple of years the band decided to scale their line up down to a three piece – doing away with bass altogether. Almost unthinkable at the time and cool as shit to do now! So if you're lookin' for treble... you came to the right place. In 1995 they recorded their fourth album for In The Red, "Don’t Like You", with long time fan / friend Jon Spencer as producer. The band toured heavily behind this album with the likes of the Blues Explosion, Mudhoney and the Red Aunts. Their live shows then and now continue to be played at a deafening volume (you've been warned). Bands such as Mudhoney and the New Bomb Turks have covered their songs. In 1996 the band relocated to Columbus, Ohio where they remain to this day more reclusive and misanthropic than ever. Catch them Aug 17 & 18 as Tom Shannon – vocals, gtr, Dave Shannon – gtr, and Dana Hatch – vocals, drums doing only a few select shows, celebrate 25 yrs of misspent youth.
