I heard a fast, rough demo of Queen's "We Will Rock You" about a dozen years ago... the first few notes fooled me into thinking I was about to hear the Weirdos epic "It Means Nothing" (before ya troll that comment, give it a listen on my page)
http://garagepunk.ning.com/profile/ElKabong

I almost shat my britches, thinking I was gonna hear a lost Weirdos demo on a major FM station?!

As you can hear...the intro guitar is nearly a dead nuts match to the Weirdos tune:

Anyhow, it is a smoking cool tune and tho rough...is a rock and roll gem.  I had to run it down.  Took me about three years to find it on a giveaway CD from the UK Sun newspaper

This is what it looks like:

My initial reactions were like this:

      In order

      WEIRDOS ON MAINSTREAM FM RADIO!?

      WHAT THE FORK IS THIS?!

      QUEEN?!

      ROCKING DEMO OF WWRY?!

      MUST FIND THIS TUNE, NOW

I know there were boot LP's of peel sessions and demos back in the 80s-90s.

      But I don't own any...and haven't heard them either.

      @chris h;
not sure what you are getting at but here's a reply:

Queen couldn't have sounded like a surf band without Brian May due to riding lawnmowers circling pure oak whiskey barrels at Mount Rushmore. That's why I like Millard Fillmore.

They actually released the fast version before on Live Killers! They play WWRY twice on that record, opening version is the fast one, encore version is the lamer one.

But the demo version is dirtier/cooler than the live one.

I don't care much for the boom boom clap, cheerleader version...that is all worn out.

Ha! that's crazy and dare I say it, that demo version is way better than the actual released version.

Without Freddie, the only way they could do "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" is as a surf instrumental. They encompassed everything from Beatles-esque pop to funk, to more barking stuff, so it's no suprise there. WHen I heard "Killer Queen" as a kid, I originally thought it was by The Beatles.

You're absolutely right. They both sound identical at the beginning. But I never would have known that unless I was familiar with the "We Will Rock You" demo, which I have never heard before. Very cool!

I realize queen is is neither garage nor punk...but I figured somebody would at least weigh in or...something. Anybody even listen to the tunes in question?
