There are plenty of garage rock and spaghetti western guitars in our "orchestral americana noir" so prepare to be entertained as well as amazed. We're doing a western tour in Canada and the USA from Nov 13 to Dec 6 for the lucky folks living between Victoria and Winnipeg - or Fargo and Bellingham. We're doing the Canadian dates with our pals in White Cowbell Oklahoma so if you like southern rock and chainsaws they're the ticket. And the Paceshifters from Holland will be opening the shows and providing even more of a rock'n'roll edge. less
Bio
From the Bestiary to the Leathering Room, the newest LP from Big John Bates is the heart of the band’s high energy and dramatic post-punk performances and it is covered with the intoxicating art of Santiago Caruso. The thick white vinyl is embroidered with themes of hope, belief and midnight paths to faded dreams.
Fronted by Brandy Bones’ “infernal fusion of Patti Smith & Siouxsie Sioux” and Big John’s leathered growl Bates has now added violin (ala Nick Cave’s Warren Ellis) to the “rustic tapestry of bowed bass, guitars and thumping percussion”. The musical changes that began with 2012’s Amerkin have led the group to tour as Big John Bates: Noirchestra; emoting post-rock inspiration from 60’s instrumentals and iconic Americana Noir.
