    • Are we all too cool to add the Coen Brothers to this list?

    • Any of you interested in the British Public Information Films of the 1960's-80's? They were really camp, yet chilling at the same time. Sometimes they were humourous, other times they were hard hitting, other times both at the same time. These are a real document of British society at its most patronised and patronising, but they capture what Britain really feared at the time. Whether it is stranger danger or being nuked,  That's what made them worthy of parody.

Even Jimmy Savile appeared in a few, but he should have been the subject of one. If he sued for libel, the COI and the contractor could have pleaded justification. I bet Patrick Allen could have narrated and found the subject matter too creepy.

two very very dark television series to come outta Britain recently have been the sublime 'League of Gentlemen' and even darker 'Jam'. If you haven't taken'em in yet. WHY??? If you're fans of the macabre and the surreal, these will be right up yer dark alleys!

just a wee taster. Chris Morris is as near genius as any producer across here in the last 50 years.

I absolutely adore Chris Morris, especially the Brass Eye Paedophile Special. There was such an out cry about it in the tabloid press, who condemned it as "sick" when they published a photo of Charlotte Church's breasts when she was under the age of consent. As far as "Jam" goes, my favourite sketch was the doctor doing phone sex.  I'm glad "Four Lions" was mentioned, as it's funny as they come.

    • A sad follow-up post:

That '73 Honda 600 sold for just $22,000 at auction in 2009. Sounds like a steal to me.

    • Very cool. Here's a couple images I've saved of some of his old advertising:

"Crazy Painters" business card, with their original address at 9001 Atlantic in Southgate.

Vintage ad for "The Crazy Painters" with Ed 'Big Daddy' Roth and Bud 'The Baron' Crozier (before Tom Kelly joined them). The best part: "Personally autographed picture of the Crazy Painters with each order, on request".

Skip Barrett's business card from Roth Studios, screen printed on thin sheets of Gelgo fiberglass, 1960s:

And I came across an amazing photo gallery on Flickr last year from Coop (the hot rod artist) on his collection of vintage Roth water slide decals, as well as show cars, old Monster Catalogs and more. Definitely a must-see for any Rat Fink fiend.

    • OK, for some reason we can't seem to get that photo slideshow for his first car to work on here. So you'll have to go to this link to view it:

    • I pretty much love everything about this crazy dude and all his wacked out cars, artwork, models, and pinstriping. But I had no idea the dude used to drive Hondas! This gives me hope as a driver of a bright red 1999 Honda CR-V myself (in fact, I'm considering a set of moon discs for the wheels right now). But I digress...

First, I happened upon his '73 N600 Coupe, which he obviously used to promote his pinstriping/customization business and is now on display at the Galpin Auto Sports “Ed Roth” collection alongside the Orbitron and more in Southern California:

Then, I came across a newer (first generation) Honda CVCC Civic that was listed on eBay several years back (I think it's a '76) and is on display in the same museum:

    • It feels kinda phony and pretentious but I'm guilty as charged. Maybe I will hate it when "vintage + photos" simulates the 90s.

This sort of happens everywhere though. New clothes that are made to look distressed. Lo-fi music. Designs that are supposed to be retro.

      THANKS OBAMA.

    • Is there an app for making your digital photos look like they were taken in the future? If so, I want it.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm kinda getting bored with this recent craze of making your photos look like they were taken in 1974.

    • Oh, man... they're selling it? Damn!

Always loved the old Dodge A-100s.

Oh, and car posts and other non-music stuff should go in The Lounge, way down at the bottom of the Forums list. Thanks!

(Moderators, sorry if this is misplaced, but the Automotive Forum hasn't migrated over yet)

Step 1 – Grab a beer bottle preferably with thick glass such as corona bottles. Tie a string just above the label on the empty bottle.

Some interesting comments on that article. Read them. Here's one:

This is a fun idea for crafts and "party tricks", but not for something you are going to put to your lips like drinkware. Due to the way you "stress " the glass apart, small chips can pop from the lip long after you are done making them- cracks too :( Use a bottle cutter, or a tile saw instead:) Want to see what else is possible w/ recycled bottles? Go to http://antiquitaglass.com/

Someone else recommended NOT putting these in the dishwasher for the same reason (micro cracks along the edge of the glass).

Anyway, I haven't tried this, so be careful out there! Maybe we'll see this on Mythbusters sometime soon.

    • There's some really shitty articles on Cracked, and sometimes really great.  Today there was a terrific one and this thread reminded me of it: http://www.cracked.com/blog/7-reasons-news-looks-worse-than-it-really-is/

When it comes to politics, religion and conspiracy theories, trying to convince somebody why they're wrong never works. It doesn't matter how wrong they are...THEY think they're right, and they'll also think that you're an asshole...which means your correct points will never get through to them. You're better off just posting what you'd like to say and  never returning to the thread,  hoping that at least one person gets something out of it...because reading peoples replies will just be infuriating and ruin your day. It's the exact reason why I hid 85% of my facebook friends from the newsfeed section. I was so sick and tired of reading peoples stupid political opinions...I had to just eliminate them completely from my view.

    • ......Lewis , of course , DID prove himself as a serious actor in "King of Comedy".

"There are only TWO Kings of Comedy. Redd Foxx and me." Rudy Ray Moore.

"Lenny Bruce , Jackie Mason , Jack Benny , Phil Silvers, Joe E.Ross .....and Jerry Lewis , not so much." me.

    • "The Day The Clown Cried" , the unreleased 1972 Jerry Lewis production , in which he playes a washed - up German or Polish (?) hasbeen circus clown in The 30's , who's overheard by a Member of the SS , drunkenly running down Hitler and his regime. He's arrested , thrown in a prison camp , and forced to entertain the children , in an effort to get their minds off their own impending doom.  Does'nt sound like a terrible epremise for a film , but , by all accounts (The pitiful few who've seen it), IT WAS.   Lewis said that he believed so strongly in the project , he went so far as to say it was the film we was born to make. A handful of critics saw the film , and all agreed it was tasteless , and that Lewis' ego kept it from showing any credibility , even if , possibly , he really believed he should shed aside his comic image (Itself bordering on washed up status , by then. I  guess I'm just being kind.) to do a serious picture to give the public an idea of what his people went through , what would have been only some 35 YEARS EARLIER. Even if the movie had to be about a clown. The clown in question is forced to lead the children into the ovens , then follow them to his own death. How many movies , up to that point , dealt with the Holocaust so directly? Even in such an unlikely manner?

It just had to be Jerry Lewis who'd make that early attempt .

About 8 minutes of production footage (From Flemish TV) just turned up on You Tube. It's largely of Lewis directing himself in his celebrated psuedo - Emmet Kelley Bum makeup. But , Lewis owns the only known existing copy of the entire film , and has sworn he will not let it be seen in , or after , his time. The dialogue from the documentary footage is in French , with German subtitles , but Jerry Lewis , of course , speaks in English (He mutters "Shit"at 6:00! ).Sorry I could'nt post it here , myself , but your brief search will pay off , particularly with a brief appearances by Serge Gainsbourgh and Jane Birkin , visitors to teh set. This , and another brief behind the scenes clip , just under one minute long , are all we're likely to ever see.
