    • Hi all, just a quick one , does any of you blokes have a good distribution company you could recommend to a small European based label like mine.
I have distribution here in the UK and would like to go farther afield.
      Thanks in advance

    • Overall, I had a great time...

Friday night was good. I'd rate it as second best of the three nights. The four opening acts were good, although The Thanes ruled that particular roost. The Sonics were fun. Some said there were sound problems, but I was right up front, getting the stage mix anyway, plus raw blasts from the amps. And crushed in a crowd of delirious fans.

Saturday night started great, with the Higher State. The Urges were quite good, as well, but I think both would be more at home in a smaller venue. (That's fine by me, because that's where my favorite rock'n'roll always happens.) The Alarm Clocks have improved significantly since I saw them about 15 months earlier at another Brooklyn venue. The New Colony Six were about what I expected. Thing is, the sappy lightweight mid-60s pop thing is not my favorite. And I do love pop. But I kept thinking it was the kinda music played at a high school dance in 1966 where the guy and his girl danced close. She's on top of the world thinking he really loves her, the way he's holding her close (until the chaperone comes to separate them), while he's thinking, "Damn, she feels good!" And, "I'm gettin' some tonight!" I went and got some good kielbasy and pierogies during their set and listened from the other room. But that was still better than the friggin' Strawberry Alarm Clock, who made me think that the one time I kept an open mind and saw the Grateful Dead was...Well, let's put it this way, The Strawberry Alarm Clock made The Grateful Dead sound like the MC5. But that's probably not fair, 'cuz I friggin' HATE that trippy-hippy jazz-noodling kinda thing.

Sunday night was my favorite by far. One of my favorite newer bands, The Hall Monitors, were opening and they did themselves proud. Eddie Angel of Los Straitjackets even joined them for a couple songs. The Wildebeests came on next and tore it up, exactly the way I was hoping they would. Then the (group called) Lyres came on and did a great show, even getting an encore from the packed house. And then the Fleshtones, who also got the respect they so deserve from this crowd. People were dancing their asses off. And during the Pushup Song, they handed the bass to The Paybacks' Ms. Wendy Case and the guitar to head Hoodoo Guru Dave Faulkner and the two of them tore it up w/Mr. Milhizer bangin' out the beat. Finally, The Sonics, who despite a few miscues, were still a blast. And this time it was more comfortable, without all the pushing and shoving.

Overall, a great weekend, with some cool rock'n'roll and lotsa old and new friends.

    • Its the same as when you buy a new piece of gadgetry,
      1..throw away the instructions
      2..proceed to drive yourself insane
3..dig the instructions outta the bin and try to understand something thats been translated from Japanese by a machine
4..Eventually you'll end up using half the features and be happy enough with that
5..hoping no-one notices', throw away the left over screws

    • I don't suppose i'm the first to enquire how it went but seeing as i'm not quite sure how to navigate this 'Hideout' yet & i haven't recieved a blow by blow account from the folks at Norton in my inbox i thought i'd just throw it out there & see if there's any bites ?

    • Hmm. I'm predicting that the late eighties early nineties become fashionable in the next few years. It's the logical progression from all the early eighties nostalgia that was going around a couple years ago.

    • I was trying to only upload Australian music to educate all you foreigners on the site, but there is way to much other cool non Australian music for me to limit myself.

    • True dat, homey. And I won't be able to get any sleep tonight until you fellers get your butts over to our page and rate our songs. Thankyaverymuch.

    • November 15, 2007 3:10 PM CST
    • But it's the principle of the matter. A fellow can't get a decent nights sleep so long as he knows that there are fuck-tards out there posting their damned arena rock and gangster rap all over our turf.

    • Buttin' in here: In my trashy opinion, all the genres from the 50's and 60's ya listed above "fit" in with the vibe of the Hideout...I don't havta tell ya that most if not all of us here are inspired by and dig frantic R&B, dirty blues, early r'n'r, surf, soul, early sleazy lounge, etc...

So longwinded conclusion: Keep on keepin' it trashy....and bring me the head of any one postin' Led Zep here!

    • November 15, 2007 5:55 AM CST
    • Guess Im just a bit slow. Only saw the star system because of this post.
      Better start rating everything.
I saw that Led Zep the other day. Very sad, time for me to upload more tunes!!

    • November 14, 2007 10:35 PM CST
    • I don't think there's any way that can be done, but I'll try to keep a closer eye on the videos that are uploaded and try to keep that from happening. Shoot me a message and let me know which duplicates you saw and I'll get it taken care of.

    • November 14, 2007 10:34 PM CST
    • I have it set to display the highest rated tracks, so yeah, it probably dropped off cuz more tracks are getting rated higher, which is the original point of this topic.

But, like I said in the original post here, if you see (or hear) something here you don't think fits, police it yourself and tell 'em that stuff doesn't belong. I couldn't agree more!

    • I think the site is pretty cool. As time goes by we should get more cool vids and songs up. There seems to be a bit of repetition in some of the videos uploaded. Is there any way someone uploading can be automatically told if the video/song is already there?

    • November 14, 2007 10:04 PM CST
    • Last Friday. Perhaps someone came to their senses and took that dreck off. I don't come here to listen to bad arena rock. Do songs fall off the jukebox after a week?

    • November 14, 2007 9:56 PM CST
    • Um, I'd say nothing, haha. I hope you rated it with a single star at least. ;)

But it's weird... When I look at the player, I'm only seeing 20 songs. None of 'em are Led Zeppelin. Where did you go to see that?

    • November 14, 2007 9:38 PM CST
    • I'd like to know what's so Garage-Punk about Led Zeppelin? Just tell me, because there's fucking Led Zeppelin on the jukebox.

    • November 14, 2007 7:43 PM CST
    • I am! Any time you listen to a song or view a video someone's added, be sure and rate it (one to five stars). The higher-rated stuff will appear at the top of the music player and video section. You can even rate photos, too, if you're really bored.

Also, as with any site, occasionally someone will join and post something that's, um, not really appropriate. Let's all police this thing ourselves. If you see someone upload a hip hop song or something you don't think really fits in with what this website is all about, then let them (and me, too, I guess) know about it.

Thanks to all of you for helping to make this new site rockin' and rollin'. The early reports on the site's activity are great! Better than I expected. Be sure and invite your friends. And enemies!

    • Show #156: "The Eggman Collection #42" Every 3 weeks I do a series of shows called The Eggman Collection, which originally was an old tape/cd collection of songs that I like. Now since I have little time due to work and stuff, I made it into a radio program. It's a big mix of songs I like, no matter what they are, what genre, style, or era they are from. If I like it, I play it. This provides a big pot pourri of music from all sorts of different artists, and also brings out several guilty pleasures you wouldn't expect me to listen to. This is what I played on the 42nd installment of The Eggman Collection: Klaatu - "Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft" Fuzzy Duck - "Big Brass Band" Jake Holmes - "Leaves Never Break" Shocking Blue - "Venus" Small Faces - "You Need Loving" Cactus - "Song For Aries" Dick Dale & His Del-Tones - "Hava Nagila" The Mission - "Gailing Made It" Thunderclap Newman - "Hollywood #1" Los Mac's - "El Evangelio De La Gente Sola" The 12th Knight - "Death Row" The Ogden Edsl Wahalia Blues Ensemble Mondo Bizzario Band - "Dead Puppies" The Holy Mackerel - "Wildflowers" Chad & Jeremy - "Sister Marie" Lovegrass - "O, Hali" Triumvirat - "Timothy" Appletree Theatre - "Who Do I Think I Am" Frank Zappa - "Black Napkins/The Torture Never Stops" Trapeze - "Suicide" Barclay James Harvest - "Someone There You Know" Those Guys - "Stereopsis Of A Floret" Bump - "Sing Into The Wind" Banchee - "Follow A Dream" The Bonzo Dog Band - "Busted" The Sub - "Ma-Mari-Huana" Flying Machine - "Smile A Little Smile For Me (stereo version)" Hearts & Flowers - "Jones Vs. Jones" Bob Dylan - "Desolation Row" Quintessence - "Midnight Mode" De Maskers - "Three's A Crowd" Supersister - "Psychopath" The Moody Blues - "The Night: Nights In White Satin" ***To stream The Metaphysical Circus live, listen to past shows, view playlists, etc…check out my website: The Metaphysical Circus Every Friday Night at 10pm to 1am on WSCA-LP 106.1 FM, Portsmouth Community Radio! • Yeah,I too give a lot of stuff away to folks as well, but it would be nice to just break even to cover my overhead costs, plus give a little to the bands (other than just products)

I am lucky I own my studio (which in my cheif income) so I don't have to worry about Recording/Production costs.

It seems that is the way things are going these days (sigh!)

      Keep 'em comin'!

    • We don't expect to make any money. We act mainly as a vehicle to help bands promote themselves and get their music out there where people will actually HEAR it. We are not concerned with making money, nor are we hung up on any one format... in fact, we're GIVING our shit away. Seriously, for free (or for a small donation, whatever). The bands sell their hardcopy CDs at shows and on their site (cheap, basically just to cover production costs), and we sell downloads on our label store page. All we ask for is a donation, but people can still download the entire zip for nothing at all. And if the bands wanna press vinyl, or just do CDs, it's fine with us... however they think they can sell their stuff to the public. But in this day and age you have to change with the times or get left behind, so not making (or selling) MP3s online is a mistake as far as we're concerned.

    • OK, what are the best fanzines/magazines that are out there to review new (and old) releases? I don't really care if it's print or online at this point, just trying to get a good list to send out promos to...

      Thanks!

    • November 15, 2007 11:32 AM CST
    • No, it was a zine that I did in the late 90s/early 00s. I'll send you a copy if you'd like...

    • November 15, 2007 7:49 AM CST
    • Don't believe I have. Is this a radio show? Tell us more! I'm actually in the middle of compiling a new list to send out promos of a CD I just released on my label...
