On this show we had special guests The Oily Birds playing an electric/acoustic set in the onair studio plus a short trib to our fallen hero, Lux Interior who left us 3 years ago Feb 4th.

      1. The Dustaphonics...Eat My Dustaphonic...from The Party Girl CD on Dirty Water Records. Great way to start the show with an instro with lots of motorcycle and car noises!

      2. The Cramps...The Way I Walk....from the Munster Box Set, File Under Sacred Music, Early Singles 1978-1981. Just got this brand new Cramps boxset and it's a beautiful package of 10 singles, all in picture sleeves, an envelope of postcards, LOTC members card and LOTC head honcho Lindsay Hutton does the notes on the back that summarize it all so perfectly! A must have for us Cramps freaks!

Above is a pic of the sleeves and box with an amazing picture of Bryan in the center!!!

      3. The Cramps...Domino....as above

      4. The Cramps...Lonesome Town...as above

      5. The Cramps...Fever...as above. Picked some slow songs for this trib as the dynamic range of Lux's voice comes across so well on these pressings.

      6. The Diodes...Catwalked...from the Action/Reaction CD that seems to be charting on lots of radio stations, but for some odd reason, not CHRW.

      7. The Oily Birds....Falling In Love....live over the airwaves. Bryan and Jon of The Oily Birds play in the onair studio and i try to mix on the fly with only headphones in the onair studio. As always we push the limits and come through for all of you dedicated listeners out in radioland. Big thanx to Jon and Bryan for coming in and they will be doing an evening show at Brennan's Bistro on saturday night (that's tomorrow).

      8. The Oily Birds...Little Things...as above. Somehow the title of this one summed it up perfectly as Jon's battery in his little amp died part way through the song...lol...We're used to technical difficulties so a CD was quickly tossed on while Jon went searching for a replacement 9V battery.

Jonny Needle and Big Mac Daddy playing live to air on Radio What Wave!!!

      9. The Hook Up...A Happening For Many...from the Call Up The Devil CD. The Hook Up and Oily Birds have shared the stage on many an occasion here in London.

      10. The Hypnotics...Here She Comes Now...from Windsor and the title is apt as a 9V battery was quickly located.

      11. The Oily Birds...Girl Don't Tell....live over the airwaves.

      12. The Oily Birds...Love Is Lies...as above.

      13. The Oily Birds...All Kindsa Girls...as above but Bryan adds some backup vocals.

      14. The Oily Birds...Heart Of The City....as above and that's where The Oily Birds will be playing tomorrow eve.

      15. The Bloody 5...New York City...official release of this song is today and we were one of the first to air this Demics cover a coupla weeks back.

      16. Elk...Sheldon....from the Balm Beach 7" and Elk will be at The APK tonight in London Ontario.

      17. Radio Birdman...What Gives?...from the Radios Appear LP from 1978 and a request for Mike.

      18. Sonic Avenues...Givin' Up On You...from their brand new CD Television Youth and they will be in town the end of March at Call The Office.

      19. Deadly Hearts...Handshake...from their self titled debut CD which features our pal Myles Deck who is coming to London next week to visit Western University.

      20. Joy Division...Warsaw...from the Substance LP...Dead Souls (JD tribute band) is playing with The Oily Birds on saturday night at Brennan's.

      21. The Ballantynes...Railtown Abbey...brand new 7" on La Ti Da Records outta Victoria BC.

      22. Sphnixs...Time Above Me...from their split 12" with Miesha and The Spanks.

Wanda Jackson at the London Music Hall, summer 2010...it was a really hot and intimate show!

      23. Wanda Jackson...This Gun Don't Care...from the Country Trash compilation and Wanda explains why you don't mess around with her.

Big Thanx to The Oily Birds for coming onair to play live. Thanx for all the phone-ins, requests and emails.
Next week we'll be spinning a lot of records as the London Record show is coming up on Sunday Feb 12th at Centennial Hall. I'll be at the CHRW table so come say Hey!

    • Most of my favorite local bands are history, so there isn't much happening around here.  The only thing I have to look forward to anymore is the occasional Cynics' gig.

    • There's a lot of stuff I could'nt care less about , BUT......

The Dyes (2/3rds PURTY gals) - Cramps , Wanda Jackson , Bad Girl - era Jackie De Shannon , Sonics  , Link Wray and their own thang , brought to a boil. Horror Films , Rat Fink , Aurora Models , Kicks Magazine , Lucha Libre , Chicago's rockin' like it's 1987 , and Wax Trax Records is still open.

Patti Elvis (She's not on my team , but she's in my league) - Drag King Elvis interpreter , with the shades of 70's K-Tel and Tom Jones . What'd El Vez say ? Some call her Elvis , some name her Rey(na) , it don't make no difference if you're Straight or Gay. SHE'S ABOUT A MOVER , SHE'S THE GROOVER ! SHE CAME , SHE SAW , SHE BROUGHT VEGAS BACK FROM THE DEAD.

Iggy Yoakum - After a 10 - year "Liqourmission" , Chicago's greatest Country Band ( Since The Sundowners , anyway.) is back , kicking asses , and taking smokes and free drinks , where they can. I'm not talkin' Insurgent Country (Which was neither.) , I'm talkin' the URGENT COUNTRY. Hardcore , Jerry Lee Lewis on Smash , Honky Tonk. Damn fine playing and songwriting. Plus a sense of humor Chicago Country missed.

Polkaholics - They're like VERY early Brave Combo , IF they'd held Johnny Thunders up there with Lil' Wally. A VERY INTERACTIVE LIVE SHOW. You WILL see bar walking , crowd - prowling , and sometimes , even mid - song bowling . They come on like they're lushes , but they are seasoned pros. It's hard not to have fun at a Polkaholics gig , unless it's a depressing dive like Red Line Tap.

Rockin' Johnny - Coooooooool - ass hep White Boy that plays the HELL out of those Blues. Not Pussy Blues , as featured at Kingston Mines and Bluesfest , but , Blues with a bite - Ike Turner , Lowell Fulsom , Earl Hooker , Otis Rush , early Muddy Waters , that sorta thang. Second guitarist , Rick , played with Muddy Waters and B.B. King.

NEW COLONY SIX - TAKING A BREAK FROM THE DEPRESSING  FAIR CIRCUIT GRIND , CHICAGO GARAGE/POP LEGENDS TESTED THE WATERS WITH A FANTASTIC ALL - GARAGE SET . EVERY SONG YOU COULD HAVE WANTED TO HEAR , AND NONE THAT YOU DID'NT. IT WAS'NT JUST GOOD , IT WAS ? AND THE MYSTERIANS - GOOD . WHETHER IT'LL HAPPEN AGAIN , I DON'T REALLY KNOW.

    • Show #359: "Bands & Artists Starting With M, Part 5"

Every 3 weeks I do a series of shows I call the "Alphabetical Series" where I randomly draw a letter of the alphabet from a hat. Whatever letter I draw, I take all the bands and artists in my collection (from the 50's, 60's & 70's only) that start with that letter and play them in strict alphabetical order one by one until I run out of time. This week I drew the letter "M". This is the fifth time I've drawn the letter "M", so I will start from where I left off on show #4 (which was with The McGuire Sisters). So, tune in tonight (Friday at 10:00pm EST) to hear 3 hours of bands and artists that start with "M" like: Barry McGuire, Ellen McIlwaine, McKendree Spring, Scott McKenzie, John McLaughlin, Don McLean, Robin McNamara, Big Jay McNeely & Band, David McNeil, Clyde McPhatter, Ralph McTell, David McWilliams, 2 different Me & The Other Guys, Meat Loaf, Mecca, Mecki Mark Men, The meddyEVILS, The Meditations, The Joe Meek Orchestra, and many many others!!

    • The Nits - Tent is one of those albums that I can never get tired of listening to, the whole album is full of great songs. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Tommy Hoehn and Van Duren, both have been known to work with Jon Tiven, Big Star and the Scruffs (which are some of my other favorite power-poppers). Also Ducks Deluxe s/t lp is great too, while that's not power-pop their are still one great pub rock band.

    • Loved the Shirts -- great live.

Boston: The New Models (Casey Lindstrom guitarist -- he's the guy playing the lead on "Something to Grab For" (Ocasek). If you ever heard Casey play, you'd recognize it immediately. Fabulous live. Their record, if you like that sorta thang, is worth a listen. Really obscure: The Lifters.

Chicago: powerpop/punk/whatever would be Epicycle. I've got a copy of a pretty good article 'bout them but link is gone now. Good thing I saved that. Because of their age, the crowd could sometimes be pretty wild.

Also,  Screaming Rachel Cain and the Remote (they were fun live)

    • THERE WAS AN EPISODE OF "CHIC - A - GO GO" DEDICATED TO THE WORST VIDEOS THE PDIRECTOR , JAKE AUSTEN , COULD FIND...it may be on their You Tube channel..... I just remember a Spice Girls parody called "The Slice Girls". "I'll tell you who to haunt , who to really , really haunt! .....clever ,no?". At least the video featured (I think ) Brinke Stevens , Debbie Rochon and Michelle Bauer, Dressed as a vampire , a mummy and .....something else. Theideo is TERRIBLE , but , visually speaking , I had NO problem.......

    • "When the rumors went around that I did it to my girl last night , when all we did , that time , was watch the movies and go home and fight"

"When I take a sip of cocoa , and pretty soon , I'm feelin' free. And when I asked him how he made it , he made it out of LSD!"

If this record had sold more than 40 copies , lines like these , and the title , might have kept it from being released at all.    I still think it's one of the better later "Grave " songs.

    • Yeah , you're right . This was from the late 50's , when "Davy Crockett" was like God , and Joe Tex was one of the better Little Richard proteges.

      swt said:

Ona recent episode of The Big Enchilada, I played "Davy, You Upset My Home" by Joe Tex. It's about a guy who's jealous because his girl is really into Davy Crockett. (I think this is from the late '50s when Davy Crockett was a very popular TV show.)

The girl even buys Davy Crockett false teeth because, Joe sings, "I punched her in the mouth last night."

Another line: "I whipped her so until she went insane. And now she wants to buy herself a Davy Crockett brain."

    • I heard about the time GG Allin came back from the dead at a Goblins show , at The Empty Bottle in Chicago. The singer , Phantom Creeper , was aghast. "OH , NO! HE'S POOPING ON THE AUDIENCE ! OH , THE HUMANITY!".....It was only chocolate puddin'.

      Andrew Malcolm said:

Well... anything by GG Allin. This video is very tame, compared to what normally goes on at one of his shows.
