    • I know nothing about this other than this very brief press statement I was sent. I would assume that more information will be forthcoming when and if Ms. Franklin and her people wish for it to be released. Until then, let's all just keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

      (Statement follows)

Detroit- Legendary Queen of Soul, Ms. Aretha Franklin was released from Sinai Grace Hospital on Saturday, October 30th following a brief stay. The Grammy Award-winning songstress was admitted to the hospital at the recommendation of her doctors.

Franklin is resting comfortably at home, but is anxious to get back on the road to perform for her countless fans around the world. Ms. Franklin added, “I would like to thank my friends, fans and supporters for all the beautiful flowers and their many well wishes.”

    • Joan Jett's scream at the beginning of the Runaways "Blackmail" is pretty darned good. Another lady with great pipes for screaming is Kyra LaRubia from Thee Headcoatees, A Lines, etc. Armitage Shanks backed her on a couple of singles one being Siouxsie and the banshees "Love In A Void." Like a dental drill through your brain.

Maybe not "the best", but I'm been partial to those naughty boy, sexed-up, pure havin' fun screams by Marc Bolan....the first one at the beginning of "20th Century Boy" is unadultered "i'm a rock star and i'm going to get some pussy" howler......

I was wondering when someone was going to get around to Roky Erickson. Buddy Randell (The Knickerbockers) has a great scratchy howl as well.

Lots of killer screams in rock n roll! Sonics, Wailers, Stooges, Mummies, tons of em! But, here's a list of the most distinguished unusual screamers...Roky Ericson ...

    • How about Violent Femmes, Neutral Milk Hotel, or Can Kickers? Some of Dan Bern's stuff. This is not something I'm an expert in, but I know it's out there.

    • I don't know if you agree but 80s British garage trash band called the Sting-Rays used to call their music Folk punk (their later stuff). Notably Mr Alec Palao was in them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKHa4vflemM

    • I do think that those bands are a completely different form of "folk punk" than the others in the postings. I really do like Johnny Hobo though.

Not sure if they're the same as the above types of bands, but there's a lot of good newer folk punk bands I'm into. Mischief Brew, Saw Wheel, Evan Greer, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains to name a few...there are lots of different styles and types of folk punk, but hopefully you'll like some of them.

UPDATE: Panasonic is in fact ceasing production of the SL-1200MK6 model specifically, while other Technics turntable models will live on. Phew! Sincere apologies for the misunderstanding.

    • November 1, 2010 4:16 PM CDT
    • Yeah, but what will that do for the price of turntables? They're going to cost more at least for a while.

      Mike Humsgreen said:

Thing is the trend is still and will continue to be relatively niche and thus unpractical for a massive electronics film like Panasonic who buy and sell on scales too large for the industry. I'd imagine though that smaller tutntable companies will be loving this as it means they have one less competitor and can thus better corner the market.

It does seem strange, especially that since the creation of record store day, that a lot of the inventory of vinyl has actually increased especially in many indie stores. Seattle's vinyl sales have really done much better in the last three years than it did the earlier part of the decade.

    • I have come across two songs that have vocals, one on Experiment Zero and one called Mermaid Love.  I generally don't like vocals on surf rock with the exception of Dick Dale but I really like how it works out.  does anyone know if they have any other songs with vocals?

    • November 1, 2010 10:43 AM CDT
    • Well I could never work out what the hell they're singing either, but apparently it's "smoking big cigars, you belch and you fart."
