   I'm sure there are probably a bunch of threads like this already, but fuck it..

I need to buy a new turntable,  over 15 years of  collecting vinyl and I still play them on flea market find.  My latest treasure will just toss the needle across a record and scratch it all to shit.  So if I needed an amp or a guitar I'd drop the fuckin' cash right??

I got $500 I want to spend on a new record player, what do I buy??  Technics / Stranton / what ?

The Pandoras were an amazing 80's surf girl band and the frontwoman was Paula Pierce, almost a goddess who recorded great albums before she died.

Trashwomen and Rockdoras are the only 2 that come to mind...both defunct.

Great tips: Loneliness Is A Sometime Thing from Beauregard Ajax, totally cool spacey western psychedelia. I can't seem to track down and National Havester yet, though I have allergies to 'prog', so I will hunt with care! Wailing Walls is also a tricky title to find, but I won't give up. On the other hand, your tip about the Tago Mago LP by the German band CAN should be read and implemented by any reader here looking for something unique, rocking and compelling. Their first four LPs are excellent for those ears who don't mind a little mystery and psychedelia. Ross Jesus Navaro Richards said:

You cats just keep amazing me! I just took a long listen into these Ethiopiques releases, amazing stuff!! What a stellar series, obviously these dudes were well versed in the local and regional music styles. I'm downloading a variety of volumes from this series right now. And WFMU is an amazing radio station, I listen almost too often to the shows there, plenty of amazing unheard classics to blow your mind, for hours and hours.... Jon Bard said:

No one has mentioned the Stems? Weird. They're definitely one of the best! You should also seek out: The Ooga Boogas, The Dirty Lovers, The Pink Fits, The Sailors, Shutdown 66, Onyas, Digger & the Pussycats, The Crusaders, The Booby Traps, Lords of Gravity, Cosmic Psychos, the Stoneage Hearts, Feedtime, and for '60s stuff, you can't beat the Missing Links (great collection on Half a Cow Records). I'd also recommend checking out the Eddy Current Suppression Ring. And pretty much anything on Dropkick or Off the Hip Records.

Los Hories from New Zealand are great, too.

The only amp I will ever use to jam with my bandmate is my 1987 Peavey Backstage Plus, it is extremely weathered from sitting in an Albuquerque garage for 10 years of its life. It's developed this really thick and saturated fuzz tone, it sounds incredible.
