I would nominate Iggy and The Stooges, Roky Erickson/13th Floor Elevators, The MC5, The Monks, Billy Childish and almost everyone here. Nobody has mentioned The Legendary Stardust Cowboy though....

i think lots of people like to say LONDON CALLING---because they cant stomach most of THE CLASH. As a band they were way intense and you had to have mroe patience to wade through an album...they were a revolutionary band, after all. Plus, London Calling is a pretty aweseom title--its like a call to arms,,,so its no surprise to me
I understand what you're saying because during the last year that my band was together, being from the Pacific Northwest, we somehow ended up playing a lot of Sonics songs, and I ended up being bored to tears. And I felt like I was cheating my audience by resorting to standards. Sure a lot of them cheered on but how long was that going to last. And no body in my band wanted to learn anything new. Sure, anybody can do what they want, but doesn't anyone want to be impressive anymore? The Mean Mean Men said:
well...might be a good idea to just cover the songs you want to right?
I guess it's because I spent a living playing jazz but the idea of a cover is really, to me, just like a standard.
That's all.
Course, I understand the frustration of having to play the same "standard" over and over again.
Was I time I had to play "after you've gone" like 50 times in one night!

It's always Jezabel or Bad Girl and other songs done to death. I'm also amazed that people want to cover songs by Greg Cartwright, Mick Collins, and Billy Childish when they haven't retired yet and are still our contemporaries.

I'd buy the one that wasn't going to break my back when I carried it up a big flight of stairs
hello kooper...
i think so... a girl singing. can you tell me the name of the record? thanks
The Diaboliks do a great version of that song... could that be it? Do you remember if it was female vocals?
I kinda was thinking over the past couple of weeks that I was a little hasty on Buddy Holly being a power pop originator, cuz when you think about it, some songs, Rave On, Maybe Baby, It's So Easy, Everyday, Think It Over, have the melodies that most songs of the era didn't have and could easily be done by power pop bands of today and the last thirty years. Didn't The Real Kids do a cover of Rave On?
that website has been there forever. the guy doesn`t sell those guitars or has already sold them. he`s a total weirdo.
He influenced so many people.... he will be sorely missed....
The Boxtops, solo, Big Star, Panther Burns, The Cramps, Ardent Studios, etc etc.....HIGHLY influential and will be sadly missed....
I had the pleasure of seeing Alex perform with Big Star a few years back at Little Steven’s Underground Garage Festival. They were fantastic. RIP Alex.
I got one more, It's so uncool that it's cool... Woodchoppers Ball On the early live lp by Ten Years After called "Undead". Stagnant Artist said:
What is amazing is that this list is so vast and barely any duplicates! Except for the hands down agreement that John Entwhistle needs to be represented! I am compiling all my lists and will post again for a pick of the top 40 from that! And thanks everyone for not being snobby about this! I know this can easily be that type of topic! You all just made it a great discussion!
We play really crappy distorted surf trash...the new g-spring tank may make us reconsider, but I doubt it ;) The Vintage 30's were cheap and available at the time...like to have an original Fender cab but they are getting hard to find and $$$'s FREDDI said:
I guess you play surfy style.. :-)
But you choose vintage 30' instead of Jensens or there's another motivation?
