    • Hopefully past show will still be up? There's been times when I've been without the internet at home and haven't been able to listen and am only NOW trying to catch up. Also hopefully, it'll be metioned in Latest Activity when you upload? As I've actually not subscribed to anyone yet.

    • The main feed (the one with all the shows) is going away, as is the GaragePunk.com blog. The 'casts are moving over to the Hideout, but now you'll have to subscribe to each show individually.

    • Hi, I might be out of the loop but I've been noticing these messages lately: PLEASE NOTE: This will be the final episode of the Mal Thursday Show that is posted on the GaragePunk.com blog. As of January 2010, you’ll find Mal’s podcast posted on his blog at the GaragePunk Hideout. If you would like to continue receiving his podcast, be sure to subscribe to his show’s feed using the link below, and/or befriend him on the Hideout. Thanks! I read a similar message from the "Get Drunk and Play Records" blog, too. Are podcasts getting the axe? What's happening?

    • Not even Beatles stuff like "I Saw Her Standing There", or their versions of stuff like "Slowdown", "Bad Boy" or "Long Tall Sally" (I really loved the comp ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC VOL. 1)? Seriously though, you also got some cool stuff by Paul Revere and the Raiders and the Kingsmen, and The Young Rascals are pretty cool, I think, at least in their first year's worth of material. I know this sounds like blasphamy but you could do a quick scan of Little Steven's playlists archives for suggestions. You don't have to be a member to look at the playlists, only just to listen to shows. He actually has some GOOD familiar tunes, not just your standard oldie moldies.

      Hope that helps a little.

    • I respect & endorse your conditions - gotta have standards. I’m pretty old (55) and still love some of the old stuff (but love the new stuff more to be honest).
Trashmen would be great, followed up with the Cramps would be awesome – hopefully your client is a little bit adventurous. Mixing up the “eras” is always fun. I’d do some old Animals, Kinks & Stones with some good old Sex Pistols, Clash, Ramones & the Zeroes. And Devo’s “Satisfaction” is always good for a bridge to yesteryear. Here are some other bands whose stuff is still fun to hear – Standells, the Count Five, the Sonics, Nashville Teens, Moby Grape (just the rockin’ stuff), Syndicate of Sound, Yardbirds, Them, the Seeds, there’s more I’m sure but my old memory is fading fast . . .

    • So I've been commissioned to dj a new years eve party by this old guy who owns like 5 bars in my town. I djed for him on halloween and he reeeeally liked all the garage music I played and wants more of the same. But its a private party for him and all his old ppl friends - and one thing I've learned as a dj is that ppl (especially old ppl) want to hear either familiar, danceable, or crappy music. I won't play crappy music - but what are some suggestions for some slightly aged hepcats from the 60s who want to party down? I've got a lot of stuff but any ideas might help. Mitch Ryder? Trashmen? And part of my condition of doing this was that I would NOT play the beatles. at all. ever.

    • I've used it several times, but only for stuff that I'm desperate for that I absolutely can't find anywhere else. It's a last resort, but I've never been burned, nor was I ever ripped off or anything.

    • Saw these guys once or twice in St. Louis and they were utterly fantastic. One of the best live bands ever! Bill Streeter used some photos from one of their shows here for this video he made for their song "Fist": http://lofistl.com/2005/02/15/bleed/

    • I get a great overdriven bass sound just plugged into a Fender Super Reverb. The Hartke "BASS ATTACK" pedal I use too... you can dial in and switch in and out of effect. It also helps to raise the pickup very close to the strings and pick or pluck around the 10th fret where the harmonic interval rings about a 3rd over the root note. It sounds like technical nonsense, but just try it with a new set of strings and dial in the tone on the bass just a bit.

    • Ever seen their low-budget "movie," Where Is the Chesterfield King? Pretty funny stuff... too bad that's not available on DVD (or is it?). And agreed on the band. Great live. Saw them open for the New York Dolls a few years ago and I still say the Kings stole the show that night.

    • Agreed. I've been fortunate enough to have seen this band evolve over 30 years (!) and they still sound great. The new disc includes a DVD and audio CD of their performance on the 'On Stage' show recorded at the PBS station here in Rochester. I just saw them live a few weeks ago and these cats have still got it. Greg's as crazy as ever, and Mike reminds me of Jerry Nolan the way he wails away on the skins...and that's a comparison I don't use lightly. Andy's as solid as ever, and Paul was wailing away all night. Plus Jeff O's back in the band as second guitar. I'm glad they're finally getting the attention they media attention the deserve.
