    • Mmm, Belgian-inspired, sounds great. Rogue always makes solid beers, but we've had such an influx of made-in-Portland brewers that it's almost sacrilege to try any that aren't made here. Guess I've gone native with a vengeance, hahaha!

But Rogue's Hazlenut beer I'm really fond of, and depending on the batch, their chile beer is nice, with a mild, persistent burn.

Finally brewers here are starting to tire of ultra-hoppy beers and starting to embrace Belgian-style drinks. At least 4 here now.

What are yr favorite go-to brews at the moment?

I'll have to review this post on my next trip to Portland. Some good info. Dave, I didn't get much a of a chance to see much on my last visit, but we did pop into Rogue's brewpub type place in the Pearl district. Had their Beard Beer, which I didn't realize the story or gimmick behind at the time. Anyways, pretty smooth and a liitle sweet, not hoppy. Reminded me a bit of a Belgian golden.

    • Hey everyone.  I'm in a band from Michigan called Inflatable Best Friend.  We are looking into the possibility of doing a West Coast tour.  Honestly.  I have no idea even where to begin.  We've toured as far west as Lubbock.  Anyone have any sage advice?  Where to play, bands to get in touch with, helpful people, who and where to avoid?  Anything you have to offer would be pretty awesome.

I'm hooking up shows in Kalamazoo quite frequently, but I think in the 3 years that I have been booking house shows I've only met 2 or 3 bands that have traveled all of the way from the west coast.

    • Looking to do some summer weekend shows for Inflatable Best Friend from Kalamazoo, Michigan.  We were looking at playing house or venue shows in the Chicago/Milwaukee area.  I'm a door guy at one of the local bars here that has been pulling a pretty consistent crowd for Kalamazoo.  I could orchestrate some shows trades for sure.

    • Very cool. I've gone to see Joe "King" many times in Puerto Vallarta. It's not the same as seeing him with The Crowns , but , he's still the best ticket in town , and , it's free ! I saw JKCC twice , in '82 and '83. They've still got it , judging by the You Tube clips I've seen.

    • We are a Ferndale-based band in search of a lead singer. Male or female. We have guitar, drum and bass taken care of. If you can add guitar, or, preferably keys/organ, even better. We have about an EP's worth of ideas, but are waiting for the right frontperson to flesh them out. Some influences we have that will probably play a part in the sound of this band are: The Animals, Pink Floyd (Piper through Wish You Were Here), Dick Dale, King Kahn and the Shrines, Thee Oh Sees, Tame Impala, Conspiracy of Owls, The Seeds, The Beatles, The Gories, Frank Zappa, Bohemian Vendetta, The Zombies, bands on Nuggets-type compilations

All that being said, we don't have a specific sound in mind. Whatever comes out is the direction we'll go. We are all really into gear, vintage and new. We build and modify our own guitars and pedals too. We like vintage fuzz, psychedelic delay, lots of reverb.

We've all played a lot of shows between Detroit, Hamtramck, and Ferndale, including some with national acts, toured, basically know how to be a band. We're willing to give anyone a shot, but you definitely have to be comfortable with/capable of performing, writing original material, expressing ideas in a band setting, etc. Also, we all have adult jobs, but some reasonable goals for this band are playing good shows, pressing vinyl, getting songs licensed. We usually practice 1 day a week, and all work 9-5 schedules. If everyone feels like, and is able to practice more, we will.
