    • Oye! Can anyone point me in the direction of some power pop bands (old or new) from Latin America? Stuff in the vein of The Records, The Exploding Hearts, The Nerves, etc.

      Gracias!

    • Check out Record Shop BASE located in Koenji, down the street from Ink Rat Tattoo shop. The record shop is located on the 3rd floor of some building. There is a sign for the shop on the ground floor.  Thats all I remember.

      Good Luck!

    • Hi, We are a UK surf rock label but we are actually operating remotely from Hong Kong. We are trying to build up distribution in Asia.  We also have www.surfrockradio.com promoting a lot of independent surf bands.

If you woud like to send tracks just email or dropbox them to info@surfrockradio.com

    • Morning all! I've noticed today that Easyjet have started flying to Marrakesh which would be an awesome place to play a gig! Does anyone live out there? Or know any promoters out there?

      Thanks!

    • Bringing it back from the grave!
I have some latin bands to share. Not many, certainly there's plenty more. But, there goes:

      PERU

Los Saicos -Don't know yet? Really ahead of his time! 60's punk at its best! The peruvians are claiming the paternity of punk rock because of them.

Manganzoides - Freaked out garage rock band that blends surf, horror and punk.

      BRAZIL

Thee Butchers' Orchestra (SP) - Soulful and bluesy raw rock and roll trio. They have albums produced by Dan Kroha (The Gories, Demolition Doll Rods) and Tim Kerr (Big Boys, Poison 13).

Os Haxixins (SP) - Tight played garage-psych with some lysergic fryin' organ, something that 13th Floor and Music Machine fans should appreciate.

Damn Laser Vampires (RS) - While in activity, they held the fame of best live act in his town. Cramped-garage-punk with some polka music.

O Lendário Chucrobillyman (PR) - Most reputable brazilian one-man-band.

Los Muertos Vivientes (ES) - Trash-surf-music with some mexican lucha libre spices.

Autoramas (RJ) - Good garage rock act, more radio-friendly and well known.

      ARGENTINA

The Tandooris - Really enjoyed their heaviness, a protopunk delight with some fuzz and psychedelia.

      MEXICO

Los Explosivos - Raw and sick garage punk in the 90's style.

San Pedro el Cortez - The mexican Black Lips!

Unfortunately, many of these bands don't exist anymore.

I also recommend nice comps like Brazilian Nuggets, Brazilian Fuzz Bananas, Psicofásicos de Bolivia, etc.

Soon I will talk some more.

    • Cuba

Suddenly, it appears that bands and musicians from the U.S. will be able to travel to Cuba freely and perform there. This could be huge. Anyone know of any Cuban booking agents, clubs, record stores, etc.?

    • For some unknown reason, Kletzl decided to stop doing his podcast, so the door is wide open again now if anyone else would like to put together a new Latin American-flavored podcast for us. If any of you guys who posted here about this a couple of years ago are still interested, please get in touch!

    • From Lima, Peru, on Trouble in Mind Records...

Montibus Communitas - Hacia Aquellos Bosques de Inmensidad (Vinyl LP)

Nestled in the valleys between the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, lies the city of Lima, Peru where musical spiritual collective Montibus Communitas have quietly sculpted sonic devotionals to the holiness of Mother Nature since 2010. The four pieces recorded for ‘Hacia aquellos bosques de inmensidad’ were tracked live in the studio on November 4th, 2011 & written as they were interpreted - we hesitate to qualify them as improvisations, as the movements feel more like messages sent from another place, given life through the fevered hands of Montibus Communitas.
