    • Still waiting for 'Chuck Berry, the lost toilet sessions' box set!

Is this shameless promotion of something that no-one really cares about anymore or are they serious just to try and be controversial? Charlies music certainly isnt great and, as somebody said, is collected as a curio. wont it make it a mecca for the 'more out there'?

That's OK, here in St. Louis people freaked out over Chuck Berry getting a statue erected on Delmar, and all he did was get busted for stealing a car, robbing a few people, and then there was that little thing about setting up a camera in the ladies restroom.

Charles Manson to Receive Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Adam Michael Luebke, Yahoo! Contributor Network, July 19, 2011

Most people seem to associate the name Charles Manson with labels like serial killer and hippie cult leader, but very few think of the long-time prison inmate and notorious American outlaw as an accomplished musician. Until now. Manson will be inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame on August 2, 2011 for his contributions toward the music industry.

The move to induct Manson into a prestigious group including high-profile musicians such as Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra is sure to be a controversial one by the Walk of Fame committee. The Hollywood Walk of Fame press representative tried to shed light on the board's decision to include Charles Manson as a celebrity worthy of being honored.

"We understand there will be some blowback from our decision to include Charles Manson in Hollywood's prestigious Walk of Fame, but Charlie is a musician first and foremost, and he spent of a lot of time here in Hollywood." She further reiterated: "We just don't want to miss anyone who greatly contributed to the music scene in Hollywood, in America, and throughout the world."

It is largely known that Manson spent a lot of time in the 60s living with Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson, and Charlie even wrote a song which the band later stole and failed to give the up-and-coming singer songwriter credit. The song, originally called "Cease to Exist", had its title changed to "Never Learn Not to Love" and was included on the Beach Boys' 20/20 album.

But Charles Manson? Does he really deserve his own star?

"Many people will ask what contributions to music did Charles Manson make," said the press rep, "and if it's proper to include someone like Manson into Hollywood's greatest, but it should be known that Manson had true music ability and much of his work was stolen or downplayed, especially after the Tate-LaBianca murders." She also commented that, "...the Walk of Fame does not have an opinion on the criminal side of Manson. We are not here to look at that. That is not our job. Manson has served his time in jail and continues to do so. We are looking at his contributions to art. To Hollywood. To music."

Manson's pink and gold-trimmed star will be placed on Vine Street, between Sunset and Hollywood.

The honored celebrity has always been required to appear in person at the special inductee ceremony where his or her star was being placed, but the board will waive the rules for Manson. "We don't expect Corcoran State Prison to let Charlie attend his ceremony in Hollywood, and we've heard that he wouldn't be interested in coming even if he was allowed. This is a unique circumstance, and this is the only time we will bend the rules of the Walk of Fame ceremony."

To judge for yourself whether or not Charles Manson deserves a star on the Walk of Fame, you can listen to his music here:

    • I'm a huge baseball fan. Oddly enough,  a lot of musicians  from the original NYC late 70's Punk Scene (which I came out of), were really into baseball. I grew up in Queens, close to Shea, so I was a Mets fan. I've been in Los Angeles for many years now & live close to Dodger stadium, & I'v e been a Dodgers fan. I guess I have something for Bankrupt Baseball teams? lol!

I'm boycotting the Dodgers though until there's a regime change. Frank McCourt has dragged the team into the mud & he's gotta go.  I mean really, The Dodgers in Last Place??? The Giants World Series champs?? Can it get any worse??

    • I don't know why I hate on the Patriots, I just do.  I think I'm more of a Giants fan.

    • July 18, 2011 2:21 PM CDT
    • Well then the Patriots should be your football team.  Don't be a hater like the rest of the country.

Anyone else watch Friday Night Lights around here?  Best show on TV and very sad to see it go.  Altho the finale wasn't as good as I'd hoped.  Get the DVD if you're into small town America and/or football.  It's also repeating from Episode 1 on ESPN and/or ESPN.

    • There is another event in the Minneapolis,MN called the "Pedals Optional" rally that caters to the "Autocycles" which has a similar vibe to it! Bands, bikes and fun! A couple guys in The Violent SHifters have built them, which have really caught on the last few years!

looks like a fun event, not your usual kind of bike show.
saw some neat looking cyclemotors in that clip i had a mind to build one myself but the laws regarding getting one on the road in the uk are so fucking strict, its near impossible to get one road legal.

    • Yeah! Events that are out of the normal are like fresh air among the ultra-boring wanna-be-the-same-as-others bike shows. I just loved the prizes... hahahha

    • Yeah, sorry about this, guys. Spammers seem to be finding new and creative ways to bypass our membership screenings here. What they're doing now is actually going into our Member directory and copying biographical info from other profiles, including musical preferences, and pasting that info directly into their account profiles. This has happened several times over the past month or so. There's really no way of knowing if a potential member is a spammer or not when they do this. Usually there's some obvious red flag (like being from Dakar, having a user name like LOVE NELLY or putting something in their bio about being "a nice girl" or "i will tell u later"), but lately some have gotten in and starting posting crap like this, usually via the commenting system, by copying someone else's account details. All we can do is be really aware of what comments you're getting on your page and if you ever see something fishy (phishy?) or spammy, let me know and I'll take care of it.

      Thanks!

    • When I suspect that I've drank too much and will have a hangover the next day, I always pop three ibuprofen tablets before I hit the sack. That usually prevents it. Works better than aspirin or Alka-Seltzer for me, anyway.

    • The Classic Crews Reader can be picked up dirt cheap secondhand.

It's the first thing I read and it got me hooked on his themes and styles. Even if you don't click with it, at the price you can pick up a used copy, it's no big deal to pass it on to someone else.

    • A few days ago, I watched The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat, the sequel to Fritz the Cat that was made without the involvement of Ralph Bakshi or Robert Crumb. I can see why Crumb doesn't acknowledge its existence. Although the 70s funk soundtrack helped it a little.
