Wow, kudos to your finding that Kids record! its one of the hardest to find!! I suggests you listen to: The Quick, Rubinoos, 20/20, Nikki and the Corvettes (teen poppy female fronted), Milk n Cookies (rpm has an amazing collection of all their recordings if you don't manage to find the album), I consider the beat to be on the power pop side and its debateable whether or not you can consider the nerves power pop which i do! Hope that helps.. i will dig through my records for some great comps too.

the brand new Hanging On For Mercy podcast is a power pop bonanza! I play a lot of it every show, but #38 is particularly rich with power pop...

Also, go check out NotLame.com. great power pop site. their "sounds like" feature in the site's search engine is right handy. and soon I'll be taking over their podcast as well!

Just last year the guy behind that site published a great guide called "Shake Some Action" that comes with a companion CD. You'll also find that on NotLame.com.

I'm sure you guys noticed the debut of a new horror movie and creepy music podcast this week, Haunted Shack Theater with Uncle Yah-Yah, a.k.a. Haunted George, a.k.a. Steve Pallow of such bands as the Beguiled and the Necessary Evils. Steve's going to be filling in some of that gap left in the wake of the disappearance of Bob Noxious and his much-missed Snake Alley podcast. And also debuting very soon (Oct. 6 to be exact) will be The Brazilian Mob, hosted by Alessandro Psycho, featuring wild and crazy Brazilian rock'n'roll. Welcome the newbies!

Fucking amazing band... i dig the pianist and I am constantly stunned by what they do... death walks behind you is flawless... anyway... anyone know of kick ass shit that is close to this besides bansd like yes.. i do enjoy fragile but would like to expand to nitty gritty bands that are not so well known.

Thanks. I did used to see Lord Floss quite a bit at the Modern Life club nights in Stockton. But I ain't seen him for a number of years now. I did contact Mike on MySpace who runs Castlegate Recording Studios where the 'Which Mask Today?' single was recorded at. Mike had this to say anout The Screaming Mad - "Now then, god this brings back memories. I remember the 2nd or 3rd time they recorded with me, I'd just finished setting everything up and was about to record when all three of them vanished and came back dressed up as monks! lol....apparently it helped them record, funny fuckers. The Screaming Mad were a band from the North East of England fronted by Lord Floss. I remember seeing the band back in the late 90s supporting The Mourning After at a pub in Stockton-On-Tees. I'd just about forgotton about the band until the other week when I picked up a copy of their single 'Which Mask Today?' which came out on Dig The Fuzz Records. The record was pretty good in a early Pink Floyd/Syd Barrett kind of way. I was just wondering if this single was the bands only release? I've had a look on google but apart from the single all I can find is a mention of a forthcoming compilation album on Dig The Fuzz Records that was to feature a track by The Screaming Mad. Did this comp ever come out and is the Dig The Fuzz label still on the go?

Hey guys, I'm new around here and I've scanned through all the pages and it doesn't look like this thread has been done before so forgive me if it has.

I was wondering what are your personal top 3 favourite garage bands.
I only discovered the whole garage thing a few months ago when I stumbled upon The Sonics. Since then I've been abliterating the net to try and find more, so I thought it'd be interesting to see who's everyones favourites. (It'd also give me some names to look into ;p)

Like I said I'm new to the genre but out of the small amount of bands I know:

The Sonics
The Mummies
& The Remains (no order)

I especially like The Mummies from what videos I've seen fo them, they seem pretty crazy.

I like a lot of music. I think "hard rock" is good.
But then again, I hate musical genres. It is my one true hate. Like all these little sub genres and niches that the media/ bands class themselves as.

To me Led Zeppelin isn't hard rock, it's just rock. Black Sabbath to me aren't hard rock, they're heavy metal.
Some people refer to Iron Maiden as hard rock or classic rock/metal nahh! They're heavy metal.

There's a lot of good "hard rock" music I think, and there's a lot of shit "hard rock" music, like any genre.

I am proud to be one of the youngest people at every doo-wop show I attend. And I do every chance I get. They are always lots of fun! Kenny Vance (& the Planotones -- check out their "Looking For An Echo") is tops for me, Dion, the Marvellettes, too, but there's so many greats. Shep & the Limelights, Larry Chance & the Earls, etc. Vocals. When you don't really need anything else. At their finest. Telling stories. Anywhere. Like this... (even on Shindig!) So yeah, I digs it.

with doo wop it's really a case of I gotta hear it for myself... too many geezer collectors out there willing to pony up big money for total schlock, more impressed by rarity than the quality of the song...

despite that, here's one rarity that I wouldn't mind dishin' a little dinero to have - Sun Ra's "Papa's Gonna Tell You No Lie"

no podcasts on Pandora, but for those of who do podcast, it's a good source to learn about stuff new to us. that is -- as long as the artists and/or label bother to send them their releases. Norton does. I hope more labels follow their lead.
