RIP to a great willful woman. That's the only Russ Meyer film I've seen all the way through ( not to mention the only rock and roll flick he did).
And then Vampira, too!
All of the lights seem to be going out. I'd be hard-pressed to name any new(ish) people who will live on in Pop Kultcha infamy.
Well , I'd definitely call "Beyond The Valley of The Dolls" a Rock'n'Roll movie - displaying the corrupt , seamy side of the Rock industry. You had an all Female Rock trio with great songs (The Carrie Nations , rumored to be partly the inspiration for Josie and The Pussycats.) , a Kim Fowley -ish egomaniac band manager , Z - Man ( Tho' Kim , to woman's great dismay , is Straight , and , to his own , not fabulously wealthy.), and The Strawberry Alarm Clock , performing their heaviest non - hit "I'm Coming Home"......Plus , if you wink , you'll miss Haji AND Pam Grier , and if they're not Rock'n'Roll ...... Kid Rock IS.

Hey people, don't let us get old(er) than we already are because if we're here talking about Tura's antics....well, ya know what I mean?!:):):):):):)
But , here ? ..........You would think there'd be hundreds of people who would equate Tura's Take - No - Shit - From - Any - Man P.O.V. with Garage Rock the same way many people(Erroneously) equate James Dean with Rockabilly. Sal Mineo was more Rockabilly than James Dean , besides , Elvis asked Tura to marry him ! The mind STILL reels at the thought of the beautiful children they could have had. Simply Put "Faster , Pusycat -Kill ! Kill !" is one of Thee most Rock'n'Roll movies with virtually no Rock'n'Roll music (Barring the great No - Fi Garage Rock theme by the Bosstweeds.).
I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S MORE SAD , THAT TURA IS NO LONGER WITH US , OR THAT THIS THREAD ONLY GOT FOUR( PRIOR ) RESPONSES. ALL FROM US GUYS , TOO. WHERE ARE THE FEMALE FANS WHO FOUND INSPIRATION IN HER BEAUTY AND STRENGTH ?
....I don't think I saw this the first time around. I met Tura very shortly before she passed. She was a great , great lady.
That's sad - she was awesome. Apparently the only one of Russ Meyer's actresses who woudn't let him have his way.. She had a traumatic childhood, ran with knife gangs, learnt her martial arts and was just cool as fuck. RIP it up.
