Interesting article. I would lean more towards Russle-Smith's argument though. First off, I wouldn't even consider Warped or Guitar hero or whatever the mag is called punk. So no girls in that doesn't equate to no girls in punk. Secondly I would say there are not as many women in punk because not as many women play punk music, simple ...
Punk's not the only genre of music guilty here. While driving to work yesterday listening to a jazz show, it spawned on me how few women, other than vocalists, there are in jazz. Lil Armstrong, Alice Coltrane ... Who else?
Hmmmm. Got a few years for this one? I guess I'd sum it up by saying why should music be any different than any other public field of endeavour. I guess I'd sum it up by saying why should music be any different than any other public field of endeavour. Music and its biz-ness isn't any more or less sexist than any other field. One could argue it is less so on some counts -- think of all the divas who've made squillions compared to CEO's and sooner, like D...
Owner of Stranded In Oz/Fibre Artist. Just a fancy way of saying I paint and design with really expensive, purdy string.
Abused a guitar with Kenne Highland (H/O's) in the early '80's in Boston. I yack about music and politics on Facebook as strandedinoz.
The Dolls, Boston '70's and '80's bands, like Prime Movers, Dogmatics, and Noonday Underground. Latest obsession: rockabilly... 'billy 'billy 'billy. And a rediscovery of old favourites, like Brownsville Station (thank you BDJ, King of the Party.
Sketches of Frank Gehry (please, if you want to understand creativity, watch that film. If it possible to have a punk soul, Gehry is a punk architect), and My Architect (Louis Kahn). Fictional films: Blade Runner, Total Recall, and ANYTHING with Sam Shepard, Clint Eastwood, or James McAvoy in it. Timothy Oliphant will do in a pinch.
Noooo time, but when there's time -- reading, as in historical fiction (WWII stuff is kewl), alt history trash, like Kim Newman, and political essays (Christopher Hitchens). Sci Fi tv shows -- B5 is the BEST or Fringe. Love! Justified. Hanging out in cafes and drinking coffee/talking shit. BBQ with friends -- it's an Aussie thing mate. twitter and FUbook: strandedinoz

Are you in south London?
Are you in a band?
Do you have a story to tell?
If the answer to all three questions is "yes" then read on. I'm writing an ebook on the south London music scene and I'm asking whether you have a story about your adventures?
If so, please call me:
Or private message me on Garage Punk Hideout.
So, I was wondering if anyone know about any new music from Ron Ward from Speedball Baby. I am a big fan of that band, but it seems like Ward has just disappeared. Please let me know if you have heard any new developments or news from the Ron Ward front. Thanks.
