    • Don't mean to upset anyone but I do wonder about the mental state of anyone who claims not to like the Beatles.  Apart from everything else they contributed to making the world a better place, without them I doubt very much whether this site would exist.  THEY CHANGED EVERYTHING.

    • Dearest Mr. Mole you are indeed correct, Hamburg Beatles were karaoke but are not all garage bands karaoke?  That is my point I guess.  When they played 3 chords they were leather clad greaser punks singing black music for the children of Nazi supporters.  A weird time I am sure, trying to sleep with rats and bedbugs in urine stinking bar bunk beds while you are speeding on Third Reich crystal meth while Pete Best is humping some dodgy fraulein from Dusseldorf while Lennon is harping on about existentialism while McCartney is pruning himself going is this "whoooooooooohhh cuter than this whhhooooo?" while Sutcliff is practicing his German dialect sternly, "ich leiber dict, is that right, John?"  Man, I wish this is what they sang about ...but nah "I wanna hold your friggin hand"  No wonder "Besty" left in disgust to leave his spunk stained drum seat for the more mentally malleable comedian Ringo.  Best was a Teddy Boy rebel rocker who refused the moppy hair chops, the matching Burton suits, the dilution of the rock with the pop.  Besty is the true punk in the band the hero, the zero, the Nero.... the outcast of the kings of pop, the saviours of rock n' roll.

    • We need to try to respect other people's religious beliefs. That said , in my Bible , Elvis is God , and Chuck is God , and Bo is God , Little Richard , Jerry Lee Lewis , Eddie Cochran , Gene Vincent , Link Wray...Gods....Even John Lennon once knealt down and kissed Jerry Lee's feet. Jerry Lee said "Boy , you ruined a brand new shoe shine !".....The Beatles and The Stones , were they Isaac and Abraham , or a couple of golden calves? Consult Revelatons (Where you'll find nothing revelatory on the subject.).

    • The Beatles were my first obsession, and I played my mom's Sgt. Pepper album endlessly as a 9 year old.  Their pop masterpieces carved neural pathways into my young brain, shaping it, and preparing it for more the more "challenging" music I would absorb later on, developing my taste for all things counterculture.  That being said, some of their songs have not aged well and seem lightweight and safe when compared with their contemporaries.  They are not my favorite band (The Velvet Underground), but I will always defend them as the greatest and most important rock band of all time.

    • Hi my name is Allister,

Good Question, I find it hard to answer when I started listening to Garage Punk.

I grew up listening to The Sex Pistols, The Stooges, THe Clash, The Kinks etc.. Then I got into The Damned, Teenage Head, Dead Kennedies etc.. in High School.

Maybe 7 years ago I consciously got into the genre known as garage punk!

Like Pat I would like to meet people in real life from the hideout, to shoot the shit, whether it be their show, our show, or a DJ night..

I play in the band Light Bulb Alley! we do shows all over Canada and sometimes New YOrk.. Feel free to add Light Bulb Alley! we are all over the internet.

i'm a 21 year old guy from the coachella valley in california.
used to be in a psychobilly band (Los Mumblers) & a punk band (Big Lizard), both now defunct. i'm attending college at the moment, majoring in mortuary science. i'm vegetarian. i drink socially and dance like Haze sounds.
i want to start a new band. a trashy group, you know what i'm saying. but i can't find a soul in this blasted desert. anyway, i like music, books & movies. specifics be damned.

    • Thanks for the insight there, Gring.

Cartoon titties? Oh well. Good thing people haven't found a way to "look" at music, or we would have only around five songs play on here for their content ;)

    • "Ex-GRGPNK Hideout members 'SLIT PLASTERS' " ---

Maybe this isn't the right place to discuss this but I received the message they wrote Kopper and I totally understand their position but unfortunately they totally DO NOT understand ours! I know most of you don't really know what goes on in the background here on the Hideout so it makes sense all of you who know the story would think we are assholes for censoring content here. To make a very long story short, we had a rogue/disgruntled member here on the Hideout threaten to take the site down due to 'pornographic' content. We are not the only site that has had a problem with this due to the new Section 2703 of title 18 U.S. senate bill. We took this very seriously and regrettably (believe me, all moderators and Kopper alike) had to instate some draconian guidelines as far as video and photo content just to be safe. Regrettably, bands like the Slit Plasters really got the short end of the stick and we think that sucks but we had no choice in the matter. I hope this clears some things up.

    • Actually , Feathers was saying "Darkness" , tho' it sounds like "Darkies". Not saying he had no Redneck tendencies , but , as it happens , I was the last person to interview him , and he did not strike me as a racist , at all. Of course , another local writer (Who surely got the Revenant CD set for free , when all I got from Revenant was the offer of passes to see Insurgent Country bores....)  .   The guy took every given opportunity to shit all over Feathers , who , by then , was hanging out with Elvis and Carl , discussing the pranks they'd pull when they saw Sam Phillips again.

Had'nt heard "Beat Her With a Rake" in a long time....Then there's "Sit on My Face , Stevie Nicks" , by The Rotters , who got in more trouble because they actually used a snippet of "Rhiannon" w/o PERMISSION , Than for the actual song content.

      Here's a few:

Charlie Feather's line in Jugle Fever where it goes "Darkies creeping through the trees"

Jake Porter with the "Duchess" on vocals - "My Monkey" on Combo records from the early 50's

Forgotten Rebels - "Bomb The Boats and Feed The Fish"

Rozelle Gayle - "House of Blue Lights" a previously unreleased Combo Records recording from the early 50's that is on the "Straight To Watts" CD on Ace Records (I've attached it)

Louis Jordan - "Gal You Need A Whippin'"

The Weasel - "Beat Her With A Rake"

      And the equally incorrect B-side

      "I am The Commander"

    • Sorry , Freddie Krc's label is actually called Steady Boy. Pick up on it.

Yep Rock is still doing some great stuff , and have a good variety of artists in their stable. Even tho' they would'nt spot me any promos for review....Grumble , grumble.

Big Beat in The UK , still going strong (I trust.). Rave - Up in Italy is doing too many unreleased Punk gems to keep up with.

Is Ryan Richardson still doing Existential Vacuum ? More way cool Punk Junk , not the kind that stunk. Look up his Rock Scene magazine website !

Cicadelic is actually improving from their 80's "Heyday"....If you see the 1972 Shadows of Knight Live CD , it's a keeper for fans of stone Punk/Metal Bubblegum ala Brownsville Station.

    • They're fantastic live! They even make it out to Arcata every summer - probably because we all dance our asses off!

Too bad the vast majority of music out of my town is Reggae. The Rock'nRoll/Garage/Punk scene kind of starts and ends in my cul-de-sac.

In the immortal words of Lafcadio Hearn, a geek of incredible obscurity whose work is still in print after a hundred years, “Woo the muse of the odd.” You may be a geek. You may have geek written all over you. You should aim to be one geek they'll never forget. Don't aim to be civilized. Don’t hope that straight people will keep you on as some sort of pet. To hell with them. You should fully realize what society has made of you and take a terrible revenge. Get weird. Get way weird. Get dangerously weird. Get sophisticatedly, thoroughly weird, and don't do it halfway. Put every ounce of horsepower you have behind it. Don't become a well-rounded person. Well-rounded people are smooth and dull. Become a thoroughly spiky person. Grow spikes from every angle. Stick in their throats like a pufferfish.
