    • The reason singles were so important in the sixties was that LP's were so expensive. Another reason was the already mentioed filler tracks, I'd hear people saying how they'd bought an LP and there was a load of boring crap on it. And they wouldn't buy anything else by them.

    • I prefer early Stones w/Brian as opposed to the classic rock era Stones, but I have a soft spot for some of the 70's albums like Goats Head Soup and Some Girls especially.

    • Well, if you like zombies and garage, I recommended to you the new Los Magnificos video. They are the best mexican garage band right now.

    • Byrds, Byrds and more Byrds. The Dovers, Roosters, Guilloteens - basically tons of Californian folk rock/garage, '65-'67.

    • I just ordered a 12 string electric guitar (Burns Double Six).  What are some things I should listen to to rip off err.. I mean, for inspiration?  The Searchers are high on the list.  Maybe you know some cool things that I don't know or forgot about.

    • As much as I would love to, I just don't see it happening. I love Memphis, too. But going to fests like this was a lot easier back when I had more disposable income (and no kids).

      What are the dates?

    • Billy Preston has the most soul, Rick Wright the best voicings & progressions one could argue.

    • Depending on how you count the Doors (not Garage, but psychedelic?), Manzarek could make a case as well, but no question that Rod is amazing.

    • I am a huge Black Lips fan but their new album "Arabia Mountain" is probably my least favorite album since their debut self-titled album.  It does have a few good songs but as a whole the album lacks soul.  Every song was so generic and much more surfy then I had anticipated.  Apparently they ran all the songs through a human skull for reverb which while psychedelic as fuck doesn't sound as cool as i expected it to.  yes this album is better then alot of albums to come out in the last few years but it was a miss for me especially because the singles they have been putting out lately seemed so much heavier and more hectic. I expected every song on the album to be more like "The Best Napkin I Ever Had."

    • That's them in the picture that heads up this group. I wonder if everyone knows that Mary Weiss, lead singer, did an album a few years ago, called "Dangerous Game," backed by Reigning Sound, and it's really good. Mary performs occasionally, I saw her in Hoboken (NJ) 3 years ago, and had the pleasure of meeting her. She's a real sweetheart.

At a yard sale, I found an old Cashbox newspaper with the Shangri-Las on the cover, and sent a scan to her. She was excited to see it, and told me that over the years, she's lost all of her memorabilia. So I sent it to her. If anyone has anything like this that they'd be willing to part with, Mary would love to have it, she's on Facebook.
