Nope! Never been.
Have you ever been to SXSW? Do you have any memories you want to share?
I never really paid attention to SXSW until 2007, when Get Hip did their first showcase down there (At least that's the first one that I'm aware of). A bunch of other Pittsburgh bands played at SXSW at that same time, including one of my favorites, Black Tie Revue. City Paper, our local arts and entertainment weekly, sent some writers down to Austin that year to cover the local angle of the event. The Takeover UK played there the following year, and the Cynics have been playing there every year since.

If so, are you in a band that's going to play there, or are you just going to check out bands?
BTW, what does everyone here think of SXSW? I've never been to it, but from what I've heard, it's very much a corporate sponsored event, and I'm just wondering if anyone here has a problem with that. No, I'm not trying to start an argument; this is just one of my "idle curiosity" type questions.
BTW, the Cynics will be there:) However, I don't know if Get Hip is going to do a big showcase.
Holy crap they're playing at Church in Boston. I can't wait!
thanks!
and for sure, garagepunk meetup would be cool!

Wild Zero is nothing shy of a masterpiece. When I watch TV in Japan, I sometimes catch the guy that played Ace on some sit-com and he's got the same hair!
I've seen Guitar Wolf about 3 times in Japan and the best was a "secret show" at Heavy Sick, a small bar RnR cub where I'm now doing shows. It was cool because there was no audience participation human pyramid gimmicks, which can be huge fun, but are not a big draw for me. They played first and just ripped through a set and that was it.
Unfortunately, I never got the chance to see the original band, RIP Bass Wolf. They do a tribute show to him every year in Yokohama which I have a feeling might be coming up soon.
Hope everyone that can get out to these shows has a blast ! AOOOOooooooooooowwww!!!!!!!
Yeah, Cheap Time are great! I'm envious of you crazy kids and you're ability to travel to go see shows at the drop of a hat. Damn you. DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL.
OK, that's the beer talkin'...

Cool, let's try to meet up at the show, if that's cool with you.

any combo that has James Baker in it....ie early Hoodoo Gurus, early Scientists, James Baker Experience and many other bands that i can't think of at the moment...
Speaking of Australia...

I've just found this; been for a wander through it and don't see a mention of either the Saints or Radio Birdman....?
Some good compilations (available in the UK, at least) - Do The Pop!, Tales From the Australian Underground 1976 - 1989, Can't Stop It! (Post-punk). Plenty Lime Spiders, Birdman, Scientists available too - also Where Are All The Single Girls? by the Eastern Dark.
D.
Friday nights I'm The Big Mix sidekick from 6:30 - 8pm Central on 91.1 FM.
We trade off picking songs. Stan is more Rat Fink / black leather jacket and while I like that too, I sneak in more oddball stuff.
Go for it DD! As someone who does a radio show, (and has no competence whatsoever, re: podcasting), I'm grateful for the opportunity to be on air and give some time to bands I think are deserving of the airing. The station makes the live stream available as archives for two weeks beyond a show's original air date so the at will or whim aspect for listeners is there, too. Listen when you want to. (I wish your station, there in C'dale, had archived streaming; I don't think they even do Playlists, do they? Does your co-DJ have a website or blog where he posts them?)((I know this because my nephew has a show there.)) Good luck Dave!
I just set up a profile for my band The Jackets. It's pretty cool having a band networking site exclusively dedicated to Rock and Roll and Garage but the site is lacking a few things in my opinion - like a forum! I also found it strange that labels can create special pages but there doesn't seem to be a way to search all labels.
How about Bandcamp..? (Any disadvantages to it vs. eBandaGoGo..?)
goood !!
