Radio What Wave Playlist April 24/2014. All Wrestling Special

      6. Foreign Objects....The Genius Of Lou Albano....from the Into The Squared Circle LP.

      7. Fred Blassie...Pencil Neck Geek....from the Pencil Neck Geek LP

      8. Fred Blassie....US Male...as above.

      13. Legend Killers...Gonna Snap...from the We're Working On It CD.

      14. Mighty Ions....Pedro Morales....from the Face Rackin' Rock LP.

Hope you enjoyed this wrestling show as it was a blast having Killer Al on telling us tales of wrestling the former legends!! Big Thanx to Killer Al and Mark Livingstone for making time to appear on Radio What Wave.

You can listen to the podcast at:

      http://chrwradio.ca/programs/radio-what-wave

And now we can add some points....the Hardcore Roadtrip shows (afternoon and evening) were a Huge hit from the fan's perspective. Great matches, almost all the wrestlers showed up, lots of merch etc.  But at the end of the night, promoter Mark was nowhere to be found! Apparently he faked a heart attack and had to be taken to the hospital by his wife. Leaving most of the talent unpaid and with no rides to the airports they were to depart from early the next morn. There's video on youtube of some of the wrestlers and the booker complaining to the crowd and near the end asking for willing fans to drive them to airports. A hell of a way to end a Great show!

I left during the last match as it was too bloody for me and didn't get to witness any of the above. When leaving i thought it was very odd that there wasn't anyone to try and sell me a ticket to the next show! I did get to meet Too Cold Scorpio on the way out and thanked him for putting on such great matches over the years.

As an aside, KillerAl (who only wrestled the afternoon show and was paid) who was onair and did a spot on show, we'll have him back sometime next month to talk about the league he usually wrestles in, the CCW.

    • currently listening to lots of Mudhoney after reading their new bio. This song is aimed directly at Love- "why don't you blow your brains out too?" is one of the more obvious jabs in it. The whole record was an indictment of the Seattle scene, came out a year or so after Kurt's death.

    • Firstly, I would like to say this about Courtney: She was in Alex Cox's Sid and Nancy AND Straight to Hell (er, tho' that's not such a great film, but then S&N has it's faults).

Hole weren't that great, but then neither were Nirvana (Kurt was always bitter about Eddie Veder basically cos Ed got to sing on Hungerstrike and be in Green River v.2).

But she is wrong (sax is one of the horniest instruments, if played properly, and getting the horn is what it is about, after all that's what ROCKIN ROLL music is all about), but then as none of you have said the Stooges (Funhouse) or John Coltrane, I wouldn't be so quick judge (and yes I award myself 5 garage points for name dropping them)

People hate Courtney cos she got to suck Kurts dick and they didn't. If you watch Kurt & Courtney and see the interview with her dad, you'll quickly realise "Oh, that's why she's fucked up").

Courtney has made a career on saying shit and guess what, it's worked, if you talk about her, either positively or not, she wins.

And Bruce is only acceptable because Manfred Manns Earth Band did such a bitchin cover of BBTL.

That is all, you may return to your lives a better person for reading these words.

    • I GUESS i MISSED MY MARK....WHAT I MEANT WAS , HOLE WAS THIS CLOSE TO BEING....UM ....A RIOT GRRRRRL BAND . CHOSING TO PLAY BADLY. i DON'T TOTALLY HATE ALL THAT STUFF , BUT , AS LUTZ VIPINDERWOMAN POINTED OUT ,   Poly Styrene was truly innovative, she took on the Punk Rock Boy's club and won. There were others , Siouxzzzzzzzzz , Pauline Murray (Penetration) , Gaye Advert , and the lovely Fay Fife (AND , BY THAT , I MEAN , SHE'S JUST A LOVELY PERSON), and in America , Patti Smith , Poison Ivy , Lydia Lunch , Exene , Alice Bag , Penelope Houston and many others. But Courtney and Hole never went though what these bands had to endure.  Anyone ever hear Hole's first EP ? MAN , IT'S GODAWFUL. I certainly dont think Courtney pretends to be a feminist , but ,she must not be listening to her own music , or she'd know how bad it is......IT'S LIKE Chris Horne , from the late , great Brood , told me ,"They put us on bills with other female bands , but , that does'nt always work......It's like , these bands that put being women , first , over their music , you can't listen to them , they're that bad.".

After Curt died , it seemed like Hole was doing Nirvana retreads. Maybe they always were.

Nirvana was the band to co - opt in the 90's , just as REM were the same thing  in the 80's.

Maybe Courtney is'nt putting her gender first , but sh edoes'nt know the first thing about Rock'n'ROLL. eVEN IF REAL Rock 'n'Roll with fat saxes is'nt your preference , you're only talking out of your ass when you make a statement like "Saxophones don't belong in Rock'n'Roll" . Big Jay Mcneeley is in his 80's, and so is Dave "Bubba" Mitchell , from Milt TRENIER'S BAND. They still know how to put on a SHOW. Do you think Courtbey cares about that?

To her , it's all about being a trainwreck in the public eye. Who cares ?

    • Hm, I hadn't even heard of it, but I'll definitely check it out. It sounds really interesting.

    • I shared song to the group. Will it go to the comp if you like it? chers

    • UPDATE: It appears that Soundcloud Dropboxes have disappeared... I guess they got rid of them? Anyway, this means we'll have to change the submission process a bit. We'll still use Soundcloud, but instead of our drop box, use this group I just set up:

      Thanks!

    • Yeah. For anyone who lives in or near Chicagoland , the new Thunders Documentary opens Saturday , May 3 at the Logan Theatre as part of the CIMM music/film festival. It threatens to be better than "Born To Lose". We will see. MY DUMB ASS AGREED TO PLAY A SHOW TWO HOURS LATE R, BUT, I may still be ableto make it. It's only 2 train stops from teh theatre.      Google CIMM .

    • Beautiful.  Freaking love the New York Dolls.  If I could play guitar like Johnny Thunders, my life would be complete.

    • I would like GG Allin better if he hadn't taken himself so damn serious.  I think he was a funny guy.  I would see him if he were still around today.  But the whole "rock n' roll messiah" thing was kinda dorky in my opinion.

This band is pretty great, unfortunately that and one other weird page are all I can find about them with Google.  Any place I can buy this stuff?  Get in touch with them or the label maybe?

    • My old friend, Bob Thurmond (a.k.a. Bob Noxious) used to host a podcast on GaragePunk.com called Snake Alley. He did 13 episodes of this show up through sometime in 2007. Bob passed away a couple of years ago and I'd like to find all of his old podcast episodes to preserve them on Archive.org. The problem is, the site where he originally uploaded them, Blip.tv., no longer hosts audio files and all of those episodes vanished.

If anyone happened to download these files and store them on a hard drive or load them onto a CDR or DVD, please let me know. I thought I had saved them, myself, but I can't find them now, although I'll keep digging around, too.

      Thanks,

      kopper

    • I STILL HAVE TO WORK TO FIND GOOD MUSIC ON THE INTERNET.....But , I agree , it's an essential comp. There's another one that came out later with a few extra tracks like "Are Everything"....It's called Trade Transmissions , I think. I've had the cassette for about 25 years , but , it probably came out on CD at the time , also....

    • Singles Going Steady by the Buzzcocks. Yes it's a compilation of their singles but every track is killer. It introduced me to their genius back in the pre-Internet days when you had to work to find good music.

    • You're welcome, Scurvy Bandana. I'm sure everyone's all right. I was't able to get in touch , but , that's understandable. I just know they were REALLY happy about it. Jegar and Kaylee are a great couple. They have so much to bring their child , besides a living legend for a Grandpa. I thik Roky's going to do just fine.

    • April 22, 2014 10:33 PM CDT
    • Thanks for sharing this man, can't be happier for them!

    • April 21, 2014 6:33 PM CDT
    • Thanks for the  thanks , kopper , and anyone else... I'm going to try to call Dana , Roky's wife , in a little while , and ask how the baby is doing. I'm sure things are fine , but affirmationing never hurt a body , none. John.
