i know a guy who built a couple of  awesome theramins from scratch  and all i can say is,  they are damm difficult thing to build from plans, one brand of component will work. and another will not despite them being the same spec.

the moog etherwave kit builds into an awesome useable instrument but it is a tad expensive.

there is a kit available here in the uk a lot cheaper but i cannot speak for the sound quality because i have never heard one.

my mr's has been driving me mad to get one for her, so i might give one a try myself.

I don't know anything about building one from a kit, we just bought one that is already constructed.

I'm interested in a Theremin or Theremin kit.  Does anyone have any experience, advice, tips, etc?

I enjoyed it. Sure, I would have put some different bands in, but every individual is gonna have their own favorites. There was some great footage of the stuff I do like.

As for concerns that this represents a "sell out"...

Get used to it. Stuff like this is likely where we can expect our music to come from in the future. The music business as we know it is dying and there will have to be new ways to get music out there. Suckering big corporations into footing the bill a pretty likely scenario.

Hey Lenny i already got the English version, it's great fun to finally read it in bookform. The humor of the Dutch still stands i was worried it might not cause English (usa) is such a diffrent language but luckily that's ok.
Been spinning Trippin thru a Midnight Blues by Cuby myself.

I have seen The Misfits-Static Age on this thread a few times. I just have to point out that, despite being recorded back in this era, the album never even saw the light-of-day until the 1990's. Considering this fact, I find it hard to include this album as a definitive 1st era album.

To Lenny, I almost think it's unfair if you start listing all the singles vs. full albums.  You'd hope that any band has 1-2 great songs in them.  But seeing Generation X in your list makes me think that that first LP was pretty fine and 'Your Generation' and 'Day by Day' are two of my faves.  And Slaughter's Cranked and Bootboys are two great tunes.

Yeah I agree with what lots of folks are saying here re- '77 - '79 LPs etc...I love The Adverts, hardly a duff sound in there...also The Flys 'Bunch Of Fives' EP, and their Love And A Molotov Cocktail 7", Johnny Moped 'No One', The Nosebleeds 'I Ain't Bin To Music School', Slaughter and The Dogs' 'Cranked Up...', The Radiators From Space 'Television Screen' and 'Enemies' 45s - they were really great live too, saw em opening for Thin Lizzy, wow, eek...also The Drones, The Pigs, Killjoys, Eater, Gen X's 'Perfect Hits' private press 7" EP thing too...The Fun 4, Bee Bee Cee, The Scaars 'Adultery' / 'Horrorshow' coupling is hard to beat too...waaarrrggghhh so many great records never heard by enough people...keep it coming

If you are playing for fun and have a day job, I'm sure it is easy to sit back and suggest Art is Free and that anyone who wants to get money is evil. That is not the case for bands feeding themselves and paying for their houses on their income. There is no nobility in starving and if some people make more than others that is the sad nature of capitalism. 

 

Here is where I argee 100%  with DammitDave. Once the item goes to secondary market that bond between creator and consumer has ended. eBay is a false economy and items are only worth what people are willing to pay for them. If some dope wants to pay 500$ for vinyl, so be it. Most of us without the extra income will buy it in the other formats for cheap. The Metallica arguement doesn't fit here because Met. was sueing for people giving the music away for free and others for stealing it (yes, it is theft - despite how much they make) Just because they are rich does not entitle anyone to take from them. And before you ask, no I have never illegally downloaded an album or accepted a 'leaked' album. 

 

But I digress. This LP is a hard copy product. If the value goes up - it goes up. As long as someone is willing to pay 490$ more than it is worth, that is what is it worth. In a few years, perhaps it will drop. Doubtful. 

A brand new vinyl for $500 ? Do they add some hand made crackles for that price, just like they add stains and holes to these brand new out of price vintage jeans nowadays ?

I.....(sob).....GAVE AWAY......An original Vox Continetal...(The one with the orange top, white keys are black, black keys are white)....and a Wurlitzer 'Electronic' Piano....and SMASHED an old 'Leo' amp.........(A UK brand, a little 10 watt all valve practice amp....got to be early 60s....you had to run it turned right up, but when you did...Fuck, did it sound good....).....at one point.  I think I was probably possesed.....Did at least not chuck the Vox Tonebender III out with it all...
