Cool thread. Agree with Kopper on Debbie Harry.

    • Wait, why is Debbie Harry in the "Fuck me" camp again? I think you're dead wrong there. She was anything BUT a packaged singer when Blondie started out playing gigs in the mid-'70s at clubs like CBGB and Max's Kansas City. It wasn't until Parallel Lines came out in '78 that they had any sort of commercial success. Sexy as hell? Yes! But she wasn't part of the machine... and to place her in a league with shit like Britney Spears? Fuck that!

    • I once heard Chrissie Hynde say something in an interview that went a little like this:

"In rock music, as a woman artist...   it's not all about fu*k me...   it's all about fu*k you!"

I found this comment to be quite poignant and have had many discussions with friends regarding it. We have divided woman musicians into two distinct camps...   the fu*k me's...   and the fu*k you's. Obviously, Chrissie Hynde is in the fu*k you camp. A "musician" (and I use the term loosely) in the fu*k me camp would be someone like Britney Spears...  you know, one of those packaged singers put together by the industry. So, let's make a list here...  I will start:

      Fu*k Me: Debbie Harry (Blondie)

Fu*k You: Rachel Nagy (Detroit Cobras)

I know Debbie Harry was not a packaged product...   and I love her band...   but I had a HUGE crush on her back in high school!

    • I should be pretty easy to spot. I'm tall, short hair, sideburns, short goatee on my chin and I'll be wearing my white GaragePunk.com T-shirt with the fuzzbox logo on the front and "Kicks Just Got Easier to Find" on the back. I'll also be wearing my GRGPNK Pro-Keds!

Oh, and I'll be with three other tall guys from St. Louis: Ryan Katastrophe, Tom Quistorff and Kevin Schneider (be sure and send 'em lots of friend requests!).

    • Rachel, everyone will be very friendly and polite to you, but if you get a rental car just know that people drive like shit here. Also take I-70 to Lawrence, not 435, and make sure you get off at the West Lawrence exit.don't know if we will be at rooftop vigilates or sexbeet first, but will post again later today.

Anyone that wants to meet up, let me know. I'm coming from from NYC and I'm not sure what to expect (from the city/people not bands)!!! Also, any after parties?

    • 2720 Cherokee - never been there. I might be able to swing that. Thanks for the heads up, Ryan. Keep me in mind if there are other regional fests in the future that you're debating about. With a little forethought, I can get involved. This one snuck up on me since I was entangled with the Shanks tour/Gonerfest.

    • Stick to the records. Avoid them live, though. She can be a real bitch on stage.
