    • Hi there!

Recently I've been thinking about buying a second guitar, and from the looks I fell in love with the Danelectro 59, the Dead on 67 or the Squier Jagmaster (since I'll never be able to afford the Jazzmaster).

Now my problem is that I don't really know how those guitars would change the sound I'm using. I play an old Fender Squier thingy (as can be seen here: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=405704319&albumID=1638533&imageID=24014130), a 10€ Behringer Blues Overdrive (with the gain on one third max) and a Dean Markley Mini Stack Amp (as can be seen here: http://monsterpawn.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=176). I only use the neck pickup on my guitar, so it doesn't sound too fat and solid, but rather cheap and semi-distorted.
As an addition I use a Guv'nor by Marshall for solo boost and this little yellow tremolo by Danelectro. You can listen to the results (and to the sound I like) on our profile here.

Now I'm (or rather our drummer is) afraid that buying a better guitar will change my sound from garage to "rock" or something, from deliberately cheap to professional or whatever.

So, does anyone have any experiences with those guitars? I hear that Danelectro guitars lack bass in favour of a more twangy sound, and that the Jagmaster only has two humbuckers (that should be changed to single coils or to splitable humbuckers for my sound), but, honestly, I have no idea and am not at all into technics but rather into just playing.

The reasons why I want to get another guitar (besides another guitar just looking cooler on my belly) are, well, having another guitar to change it when a string breaks during a show, and this damn fucking Floyd Rose tremolo system on my old one, that just sucks and is way too complicated to handle for the primitive music I make (way back in the metal days it may have been cool, but now...).

Thanks for any advice, opinion, comment, help!

      Cheers, Doc Sanchez

    • Ha ha ... well there's probably tons of em I wish I'd written, but something like 'I Know You Cried' by TX lot The Sherwoods, and it woulda been so cool to have penned the likes of 'Midnight To Six Man' by The Pretty Things, and the popsmackin' teen-punkers 'It's Cold Outside' by The Choir and 'What Am I Going To Do' by The Dovers come to mind too...and maybe The Moving Sidewalks' '99th Floor', 'Felt Like I Want To Cry' by the Outsiders, The King's Ransom's 'Shame', 'When I Get That Feeling by String and the Beans and maybe even The Kingsmen classic 'That's Cool, That's Trash' too, and 'So High I've Been, So Down I Must Fall by the mighty Q65...

    • I know our guitarist uses a fender twin reverb deluxe amp. we fucking love it except for one annoying ass noise what we are finding out is called the "blast spot" or something, basically the amp sounds fucking GREAT until you stand like directly in front of it about 15 feet away (exactly where the crowd is supposed to be) and then you just hear loud SHIT almost, i mean you can still hear everything really good through it but then you still hear the shit. some recording guy said that we have a wonderful amp and will just have to deal with the "blast zone" or whatever it is. Dan Donovan said:

We don't have a bass player and at live shows folks always say 'who's triggering the bass lines'. The answer is there's no bass lines being triggered it all comes from my guitar sound. I use no effects pedals, it's pure and simple. All our recordings are done with this set up, no overdubs just one performance. I play drop D tuning and set the graphic up real heavy on the Trace Elliot.
SICK! we also do something similar to this, although we just use the amp, no extra trace elliot though. alot of people tell us they never notice the bass missing and whatnot because logan puts out that low shit to replace the bass, i think its pretty genius and im glad to see were not the only ones who use this :), although we figured there were PLENTY before who did this (the ventures had three guitarists at one point I THINK)

    • The Sex Pistols,Never Mind the Bollocks and The Dead Kennedys Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, Adam and the Ants album Dirk Wears White Sox, is another blinder. Blondies, parallel lines is another class act. Wire's Pink Flag is another beaut!!! The seminal Cramps slab o wax madness, songs The Lord Taught Us is another generation definer. Jesus! there are lots of great Lp's around at that time. The Damned's first album, SLF, Iggy all releasing great stuff. Dr feelgood, Camden and the High Roads, More bluesy than punk, but the spirit is there.

    • Dr Feelgood - Stupidity. Great album

For a bit of fun, the Nuns always used to make me smile. Hilarious lyrics, especially Suicide child.

    • For me the best 1st era PunK LPs have gotta include The Damned, The Ramones 1st, 2nd and 3rd, Sex Pistols (Spunk boot tho, so much better soundin than their heavy-rockin' metal-guitarrin' slab o snot-wax Bollocks - but hey that's still great too...), The Saints, The Boys, The Adverts, The Clash 1st, Wire 1st, 2nd and 3rd, Buzzcocks and, although some folks don't really class them as punk PUNK if yer knowworrameen, I still say the Banshees and the Ants' debuts too are crucial...and let's not forget the likes of The Roxy WC2...
