damn. until I found this website I did not really check out new music, it was all nuggets/pebbles/back from the grave and THE CRAMPS. via SAVAGE KICK and R'n'R SUICIDE, the various incarnations of Kahn and BBQ were one of the first new garage groups I really dug. so very sad. although I don't really believe "that's it".

really I'd like to hear BBQ's side of the story. Thee King rules, but let's face it: his cream corn aint exactly vacuum packed too tight.

PS: I hate laurie anderson. I'd see her on night flight and it was like "your parents' art rock".

Teen-age Riot! on the Atomic Passion 1957 label.....fucked up trash'n'roll from the late 50's to early 60's including Kip Tyler's Jungle Rock
Real Gone Garbage...on the Romulan label...trash from the late 50's to early 60's
Bent, Batty and 'Bnoxious! on the Torture One label....fucked up trash....late 50's to mid 60's
The Madness Invasion....on the GMG label outta France and there's at least 3 volumes....noisey trash'n'roll of the early 60's

All the above i've got on vinyl, probably got them in the mid 80's or thereabouts....got tons more, but these are sorta cream of the crop for this kinda noise.

and if you like this kinda stuff, Norton has the 3 Volume Mad Mike Monsters on LP that is well worth picking up...as always, way more liners than you can read while you spin the disc and shake your ass and spill your beer!

yes, LOOKEY DOOKEY is definately an album, but it's more like SHAKIN' FIT than WAVY GRAVY. the catalogs/websites are a help, I just wanted to see if anyone could add some titles I might have missed.

Geez, the only thing I can think of is checking out the Norton and Crypt catalogs. Mostly because the Big Itch is the only thing that comes to mind. I think you mentioned Looky Dookie (?) on that Skynnard thread. But to be honest that might not be a record. But for some reason it sounds right.

Fire & Brimstone's 1967 45, "I Could Hear The Grass Growin'" (not the Move tune) b/w "Underground" was written and performed by two ex-members of Mike & the Ravens, Mike Brassard & Steve Blodgett. The 45 was produced by Terry Phillips, the only guy who ever wrote songs with both Lou Reed and Phil Spector. Both trax later ended up on Jimmy Curtiss' New Hobbits LP from '69 albeit uncredited to Brassard & Blodgett.

Fast forward 43 years... Helsinki, Finland's Them Bird Things do a version of "Underground," which can be heard at www.myspace.com/thembirdthings and seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYtSHQp3unA (or on this site's own video page)... Blodgett makes a studio appearance on Them Bird Things version, playing the electric guitar on the middle section... from the upcoming Them Bird Things album, "Wildlike Wonder," which will be out on Playground Music Scandinavia next month!

I guess I was thinking of garage and psychedelic bands. I prefer to hear them in English even if they are from France or Spain, or Italy. Some people find Japanese bands hilarious when they sing in English, but personally, I think they are being totally sincere and honest. And it's those bands I find charming. Or even the Hives, Nomads, or Wylde Mammoths from Sweden. To some, it sounds a little hokey (funny in a bad way), but again, I think they are being honest to a music they really love. Cringing accents are one thing but the lyrics are another. I've heard recently 2 really poor celtic punk bands one called Mr Irish Bastard and the other Paddy and the Rats. The names alone are offensive to Irish people (both bands hail from central Europe). And their lyrics are laughable not least because they are singing about a culture they nothing about outside of stereotypes. A lot of Europeans whos first langauge isn't English will miss much of the irony I expect but any Brit or Irish person would quickly hear the bullshit.
