Super sad news indeed............ :(
Just saw this update from Billy Miller of Norton Records:
Very, very sad news. Norton Records superstar The Mighty Hannibal has passed away. We do not have the full details. He called Norton HQ this morning and was his usual upbeat self and all seemed fine. This is devastating news. A true legend is gone...
The Screamin' Soul Preacher said:

Of course Link Wray would be a mighty Prince in this kingdom !
I'd agree with this statement. Little Richard is also the king of punk in my opinion.
I'd say Carl Perkins. He wrote some of the greatest rockabilly/rock n roll songs, played a mean, mean, MEAN guitar. Plus that VOICE. DAMN. His sphere of influence spreads far and wide. Hell, Gene Vincent said that Elvis' sound wasn't anything new but was already around thanks to "especially" Carl Perkins (can't remember exactly where I read that. sorry haha). And though I'm not a big fan, he was heavily influential on the Beatles, bringin that Dixie-Fried sound to England and back again.
Plus, he was a rowdy rebel. In his autobiography, Johnny Cash talks about the Perkins brothers being mean barroom brawlers back in the day. Sure you don't have to be mean to be a rock n roller, but I think Carl had that little bit of crazy in the back of his head (mixed with an undeniable coolness) that makes for great music.
That's my rant haha. Carl Perkins was one of the first rock n rollers I ever heard outside of Elvis and he blew me away. Link Wray, too. I agree with him being the prince. It astounds me that artists like Aerosmith are in the Hall of Fame, but not LINK WRAY! Even though I don't think much of the Hall, I still can't BELIEVE Wray's not in it.
BTW , anyone who knows me I THINK LINK , and did , long before POOP Fiction and all that other stuff he made no money offa...But , to me , he's King of HIS world....Maybe not one of the Top 12 artists I'd consider Kings of R'n'R , BUT NOT TAKING ANYTHING AWAY FROM HIM , EITHER....
Link , Duane Eddy , Davie Allan, Travis Wammack , Scotty Moore , Mickey Baker , Mick Green , Nokie Edwards , Larry Collins , James Burton , Hank Marvin , Steve Cropper , Roland Janes , Cliff Gallup , Johnny Meeks.... (Pre - British Invasion Guitar Gods Wing of The REAL Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame.).
AND Dick Dale. His egotism , and mistaken notion that he can really sing , drives me up the wall , but , he was on FIRE when he made his first comeback bid in the early '90s.
Elvis Presley is The King of Rock'n'Roll , Chuck Berry is The King of Rock'n'Roll , Little Richard is The King of Rock 'n' Roll , Jerry Lee Lewis is The King of Rock'n'Roll , Bill Haley is The King of Rock'n'Roll , Bo Diddley is The King of Rock'n'Roll , Fats Domino is The King of Rock'n'Roll , Buddy Holly is The King of Rock'n' Roll , Carl Perkins is The King of Rock 'n'Roll , Eddie Cochran is The King of Rock'n'Roll , Gene Vincent is The King of Rock'n'Roll.
Wanda Jackson, God Save The Queen.
A two-seated throne for Bo Diddley and Little Richard.
Of course Link Wray would be a mighty Prince in this kingdom !
Then who is? Mr Presley denied it, with good reason. My candidate for the true king of rock'n'roll is Link Wray, as we wouldn't have fuzz tone or power chords without him. He practically invented garage with "Rumble".
They played Toronto a week or 2 ago and heard they were really really good!! Young kids with great taste in music is extremely rare these days!
Wanted to go, but the weather sucked....(I'm 2 hours away from Toronto)

2. Los Readymade...Cat Blue...from the Automar CD. Argentina garagepunks who are on the garagepunk hideout.
3. Drug Dealerz....Mayor Ford....from a demo, and these guys are also on the garagepunk hideout. Mayor Ford's been up to more lies and shit this week, so this song is certainly appropriate.

7. The Byrds....Turn Turn Turn....as above.
8. The Byrds....I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better....had the Byrds LP's out and just had to play this tune...for Cyril Jordan whom we've had the pleasure of meeting twice in the past couple of years. Flamin' Groovies

16. Ashley Cleveland...Rockin' In A Weary Land...as above. This was also a Grammy nominee, which proves there is some cool music at the Grammys! I've been getting more into gospel music the last coupla years, so you may be hearing more of this overlooked genre of music.
17. Jehosphat Blow...Oh Ya Oh Ya...from a self released download and the start of our Chinese New Year special. Jehosphat is a one man band, currently living in China and recording in his home.

Checked with both Mike and Tim. Mike has no idea and Tim said he lost touch with Mark Abate in the late '90s.
If anyone has done it, I bet Mike Stax of Ugly Things mag would know... or maybe Tim Warren?
Chris Henniker said:
I never saw the show, but what made it so bad?
The current state of popular music? Just a wild guess.
"I'll SHOREDITCH this bird in the morrow before the taping.....OR , maybe I should bring her along , bit of human interest....I should be taping THIS ! PHOAR !!!..". Roger Nellie , Man on Tellie. ("Bollocks").
Well, he's a hipster living in Shoreditch.
Y'mean , like Roger Nellie?
Nathan Barley is a character created by Charlie Brooker and is a loathe some media type who has no morals or ethics whatsoever.
Roky IS touring with The Hounds of Baskerville as his backing group , it turns out. Black Angels are doing their own set , that's it. I forgot their name , but , there's a third band , too, Golden Animals or something.....
The Chicago gig is at Park West , Feb. 5. I said it before , but , I can't believe Roky is getting second billing. I don't know how long he's playing , maybe that was a deciding factor. He did'nt get top or equal billing to "Overrated Unanimous" - Alejandro Escovedo , Rosie Flores and Butch Hancock , either, but , they only let him do two songs , when some people came specifically to see HIM (BTW , Alejandro is a very nice guy. Wish I got it wih his music , like 2/3rds of Chicago.).
But , Kopper , I would put out an APB , somebody might have an extra ticket , or you might be able to score tix the night of the show. You never know.
BTW - If you don't see your city on this list , it's probable (And hopeful) that Roky will regroup with his official backing band , and , arguably , his best , since The Explosives , Hounds of Baskerville , after Kaylee , Keyboardist , and Jegar , band leader and Roky's Son , get some parenting in. Their Son is due to be born in about two months. Jegar jokes about a Devil child , when , of course , that baby is going to be so beautiful , it should be blinding. Oh , yeah , Lucifer was , too , scratch that.
But , seeing as how this is a package tour, I think (But can not confirm.) that if and when Roky rejoins some version of The Hounds of Baskerville and commences with a headlining tour (He does'nt normally tour with other bands , unless they're backing him , which Black Angels have , and will be , on this tour.), obvious spots like The West Coast should eventually be covered. Likewise , I would think , for Europe , but , again , I'm only speculating.
....I REMEMBER , NOW......Anothe movie title that'd make a great band name "The Horrible Sexy Vampire(s)" . It's yours , take it. Me and musicians....we don't get along too tough.
Yes. Definitely.
Yes please!!!
So much to choose from. Thank you!
