Well thats the point I am trying to use it, but all these different forum groups is it really needed? some dont see any action for weeks or months, it could be simplified a bit into just 4 or 5 groups, its way too much right now. Just trying to help dude.

I am very new here but this site looks super cool, I plan to blab away and hopefully inspire others to do the same. There is a lot to learn especially about the very old obscure garage music. Its kinda what I was thinking, this site is great,but sometimes you just want to see who's playing what records are out and general stuff easily without trying to negotiate a maze, sometimes simple is best, its the garage way!

I would loe to see a video podcast... definitely cannot host one but will be a fan of whoever does host it :)

Something like Night Flight would be great. I still search torrent and file sharing sites for anyone who had the foresight to record old episodes and then be motivated enough to convert it to digital. No such luck though. I especially want the "New Wave Theater" shows since those were partly responsible for warping my young mind. So yeah, this is an excellent idea.

No hosts though. Hosts more often than not start to think the show is about them and wind up being lame.

Yeah - I've been thinking about this too... I would love a podcast that was a trashed out version of the old USA show Night Flight... B-horror trailers, short video clips, and weirdness all mixed with music videos and live performances...

Maybe even with a ghouly host =)

My band has its record being listened to by two US independent labels. One label has seen the band, heard the CD and had email communication, the second label heard good stuff about us, called me and has heard the CD. Both labels seem interested - but what can I do to close the deal - in other words sell the idea of signing the band as if it was their idea?

I don't want my time wasted either - so I'm thinking it's time to ask if there is anything else they need while they listen and propose a deadline for an answer - hoping they respect this approach. Slacking and not following lead leads to no deal - what do I have to lose anyway - just publishing :)

What would you do - basically this is like any other business sales transaction - what is in it for them = profit !

I love photographing people who played on great records of yesteryear, and new stuff too. My catalogue of photos has a lot of faces in it. NYC can get pretty "name-droppy" which is annoying, but my favorite recent encounter was a couple glasses of wine with sammy yaffa (formerly of finnish glam outfit hanoi rocks, and currently the bass player for the new york dolls). Also in 2007 I had The Hives hanging out at my pad during Cavestomp, that was fun! Check out this fun photo of Magic Christian too! I definitely heart Cyril Jordan!

I have "met" a few at shows in the sense that someone introduced me (or I introduced myself) when we happen to be in proximity to each other. Even had a beer with some. But the only one I have met that would recognize me walking down the street is Earl the Pearl Hudson of Bad Brains. Come to find out, he lives only 2 miles from me. Small world.

Joe Strummer and Mick Jones; Captain Sensible and Dave Vanian; Glen Mattlock; Sylvain Sylvain and Arthur "killer" Kane ( literally just one month before he passed away, backstage at their first reunion gig); Jayne County; Lenny Kaye; Alan Vega; Shane McGowan;
and a few more that at the moment don't sping to mind.

yeah it's like an ep - and it just struck me as a good target

In your band, stick to what you are good at.

For example, I'm normally pretty good with coming up with an theme or idea for a song and the bassist fills in the rest.

I also find picking a chord progression (just like A G A C) then elaborating it to make it original and your own. I'm also a big fan of tempo and volume changes and fewer riffs, but that depends what sort of stuff you're into.

so who are all the name checked bands you have in mind? there are quite a few of them. best way to start with a garage rock song is to have a title (which usually turns into your chorus) or a set of situations around a common theme or a catchy riff of some sort, either a melody or a guitar riff. if you have any or all of the above, you should be set to write some songs. why 4? you planning to put out a 4 song EP ? spike P.

I will be using mobineko for the first 45 with thee Gravemen, they are cheap and hopefully good quality, will let you know how it sounds in a month or so
