Hey Sleazy! Thanks so much for posting these videos of Niagara! I haven't had time to watch all of them yet but I will! She's as lovely as ever and I'm so proud of her and all of her accomplishments!! She's doin it for all us girls, making us proud of our gender!

back in the 7t's and 8t's i would find tons of singles on obscure labels in thrift shops.the price was always right, so i could always "take a chance" on what i was purchasing. little did i know that what i was purchasing would comprise the bulk of my garage singles collection. i'm finding now, at least in my area (Central Coast Cali), that people are dumping their vinyl (is this due to downloading?), it's hard to say. but, like they say, one man's junk....

I'm wondering what kind of luck people have had scouting out records at thrift stores, yard sales, flea markets, etc. 78s, 33s, 45s... hell, even CDs. I'm not really talking about record collector conventions or used record stores, but finding good stuff (striking gold!) where you ordinarily wouldn't (like when i found a small treasure trove of records tucked away in the back of a hundred-year-old bookstore once). Any stories?

i always heard the reatards/jay reatard name kicking around but never checked them out bar one or two songs. then he played here in Dublin and i planned on going but work got in the way. his Dublin gig was filmed you can find it here http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFB5AE667F4A17327 and i watched it over and over, loved him ever since. got Watch Me Fall and then worked backwards. i prefer his solo stuff mainly because The Reatards is the stuff i was into in my early 20's and now i'm 30 and appreciate Jays ear for a melody. It's all great but i don't think his solo stuff lacks anything.

Yes, I know none of those albums are garage albums, but they are the top three albums in my collection, because they all have great songs from beginning to end, and they never stop sounding  fresh to me.

kopper, that is not really an explaination. it is an opinionated definition written by "hipsters?". words are precious.  we misuse/overuse them so often they become worthless. one person's "mainstream" very often bears no relation to another person's "mainstream". please do not think that we are saying we are not guilty of this horrible crime. we are trying to  understand what people are saying. good luck on figuring out what we just said.

It was a somewhat rhetorical question and glad to hear there are others who have roughly the same definition as I.

Where I may diverge from most is that to me, the "garage" sound started earlier than the early 60s, pre-Beatles with some of the best underground American "garage" rock like Hasil Adkins.
