    • Plainfield Butchers need help with 2 So Cal. Shows (may 18th and 19)..bio below:

      Hello!!!

The Plainfield Butchers are from Az and are looking for a show in caliMAY 18th or 19th. Bio and tunes below:

The Plainfield Butchers is a new garage/punk/new wave band featuring members of such notorious Arizona acts as Digital Leather, Andrew Jackson Jihad, and Big Vinny and The Cattle Thieves. They have one self released album "Hard to be Human" under their belts which came out in Februaury of 2011 and has quickly sold out of the 500 copies pressed which also gained tremendous hype from The Phoenix New Times (including top 8 albums of the year so far for 2011) and others. Their new song "Truckstop Urinal" was also recently released on Garagepunk.com's new compilation series.

Known for their high energy-in your face shows. Influences of The Plainfield Butchers consist of acts such as Devo, The Wipers, The Drags, The Buzzcocks ect.

The Plainfield Butchers recently played The Las Vegas Shakedown and have shared the stage with such acts as Destruction Unit, M.O.T.O., Digital Leather, Reverend Beatman, Box Elders, Cat Party, Murder Junkies, Cheap Time, Bare Wires, The intellegence, So Cow, Midnight Creeps, The Vibrators, Monotonix, Davila 666, Cosmonauts and many more.

    • Didn't see any thread like this one, so i figure I'd give it a shot. I thought it'd be a good idea to start a little thread like this for our area where we could promote our own bands, shows, venues, parties, anything really.

We could use this to meet up new bands to play shows with too. We help each other promote, maybe look for bands to tour with, the possibilities are endless.

so just post anything: band pages, shows, whatever.

i'll go first, here's my band. we're down to play with anyone or any house parties ;)

      http://www.facebook.com/pages/Apache-And-The-Wolf/142249652528230

also speaking of parties, I'm gonna do one or two little DIY parties/shows this summer. probably at local banquet halls around OC. message me if your interested in helping, playing, or just partying.

i hope this thread works. I've found it difficult to find like minded people around, and sharing the stage with metal bands or goth bands can be awkward when you're just a rock n roll duo. i hope some kind of community can grow from this!

    • 1) Record stores:

The best record store in SD is Record City in Hillcrest. Across the street from RC is another great store called Thirsty Moon Records. A few blocks away is M-Theory. Near Ocean Beach is Cow Records. Taang is ok for rare records, but the prices are so INSANE, it's almost laughable. I'd go to Record City first.

      2) Venues:

For rock n roll/garage shows, I'd stick to The Casbah, Til Two and the Tower Bar.

      3) Beer:

      1. SD has a large beer culture... this place is super popular: http://blindlady.blogspot.com/  I think there is even a beer tour http://www.sandiegoisbrewing.com/  - I am not the right person to ask, as I don't drink... but I know Blind Lady always has a line out the door for their food and beer. On that same street is a gourmet pizza place that has the most amazing pizza ever called Zia's Pizza...

      4) Tijuana.

Personally, I'd pass unless you have a friend to go with during the DAY only. Don't go at night!! There's a record store on Revolucion, but it's always closed when I've attempted to go there. The police there are shady... but the food is good and there's lots of cheap beer!!

      5) Any other touristy type bullshit I should do?

If you're willing to make a little road trip, there's this RAD place called Salvation Mountain that is a few hours away near the Salton Sea and Bombay Beach... ghost towns, but great for taking pictures; Balboa Park is really pretty - lots of cool museums; obviously all the beaches; seal beach in La Jolla is cool http://www.lajollafriendsoftheseals.org/   there's a place about 45 minutes away called Julian, it's an old little town but they have really good pie and little shops... kinda nice to just walk around when the weather outside is good; the Birch aquarium is cool..... there's a lot of fun and low cost stuff to do around SD... have a fun trip!!

    • I'm a Canadian (Calgary) guy who's going to be in San Diego for a few days in July.  I want some tips on stuff to do there.  Let's break it down, shall we?

      1) Record stores.  Which ones are worth checking out for quality vinyl?  I checked the Taang website and I thought the prices on the "collectible" records they had listed were pretty ridiculous.  Is it still worth a dig?  Where else should I check?  Also, if there's anyone from San Diego who's a collector interested in doing some trading, let me know.  I have some Canadian KBD type punk stuff I could bring and swap.

      2) Venues.  Where do the good bands play in San Diego?  I doubt there's anything announced yet, but I'd like to be able to check the websites for the cool places before I go.

      3) Beer.  I have a professional and recreational interest in craft beer.  Where are the good micros and brewpubs?  I heard that Stone and Green Flash have both opened up new retail locations/pubs in the downtown area.  I also heard that Pizza Port is really good.

      4) Tijuana.  Is it worth making the trip across the border?

      5) Any other touristy type bullshit I should do?  I heard that the museum on the U.S.S. Midway is pretty cool.

      Thanks.

    • It's the last Saturday of every month.  However they are hosting a birthday party tonight  (April 14)at McGillicuddys (ex-Whiskey Dix). 421 N. 7th St.  Open to the public and , knowing the birthday boy, the emphasis will probably be on punk, surf, trash rock.  Tell 'em the Jersey City Mods sent you.

    •  Maybe they should just re-name the Parkside Lounge "The Dive" for a few weeks.

    • I guess we're gonna get to know the bartenders at Parkside pretty well in the next 2 months.

Are there going to be any new T-shirts to add to our collection?

    • Thanks. I'll give it a shot. I'm originally from Nashville and lived there until 11 years ago (until I moved to Moronto, Cana-duh). Everything's changed so much I don't really know anyone down there any more to book shows.

    • The Evil Eyes (feat ex-Leather Upper and Tijuana Bible Classy Craig Daniels) are looking to play some dates in July/August and would like some booking assistance or some show trades for the following cities:

      Atlanta

      Chicago

      Cincinnati

      Detroit

      Louisville

      Memphis

Nashville (my hometown- gotta get a show here!!)

      New Orleans

We would also be willing to play within a reasonable driving distance of any of these places (Murfreesboro TN, Chattanooga TN, Birmingham AL, Huntsville AL, Little Rock AR, Chapel Hill NC, et al).

We're going to be out and about anyway so if you want to do a show, let us know- we'll play almost anywhere - house parties, weddings, bar mitzvahs - if you have beer and bourbon, we're there!

If you can set up a show in yer neck of the woods, we'll get you a show or two up this way!
