    • I'd still like to know what this "Ning app" is that Mike mentioned above. Has anyone else ever found anything like that in the iTunes app store?

    • Here's the link to the playlist when my friend and I did a glam special back on Feb. 10, 2011, a few months after this thread got started (wow it's been that long?).

I don't think anyone here tuned in even tho I advertised it but we had a great time. She's on the day before me so I tried not to repeat too many bands, thus no Brett Smiley and some others but a pretty diverse group of stuff I think. Would have played Smack but had done them for our special on Nordic rock, so they missed the Glam show.

    • Whatever happened to Nasty Suicide? Seems all the  surviving ex - members , barring him (And Gyp Casino .) have turned up again.....I have , I think , the first Suicide Twins album (On Tape - 0ld School!) , but I forget the name. I have'nt listened to it in over 20 years. Did'nt do much for me. Maybe I'd like it better , now.

    • Thank , Thank , Thank , Thank you Duke , Duke Duke , Duke of Earl...

There's a short interview with  Brett Smiley , by Greg Prevost , in the new Ugly Things....I did'nt know his proposed album was finally released in '03. I thought he was dead , but , then I found out he's still in NYC , PERFORMING WHEN HE'S PHYSICALLY ABLE (HE HAS HIV , BUT , NOT FULL BLOWN AIDS) ..... Well , of course , "Schlong Rock" would have to start with Black Oak Arkansas , then Iggy Pop , in general ,and , well , I don't go around lookin' at 'em too much , to tell the truth. GPH member and Battlefraynt , James Porter , interviewed Syl Sylvain , and had the nuts to ask him "Did you and Johnny stuff for that picture onthe backof the first Dolls ALBUM?" , TO WHICH HE REPLIED "DID WE STUFF?! JOHNNY WAS ITALIAN , AND I'M JEWISH ! OF COURSE WE DID'NT STUFF !!!". THERE YA GO.  Syl also told me a cop confronted Johnny , because he was wearing that same red leather suit in that photo. The Policeman thought Johnny had a bag of POT down his pants, when he saw the lengthy protrusion , and demanded that he take his pants off . "AH AIN'T GAAHHT NO UNDAWEAH !!!" , PROTESTED THUNDERS. THE COP SAID , DROP 'EM , JUST THE SAME . AND BOY , WAS HE SORRY HE DID ! He probably can't even look at the elephants in the zoo , anymore .

Briard? was that Andy and Michael Monroe's early band? I heard they were great , bu t, I've never actually heard them

Schlong rock, hahah. It be neat if anyone could comprise a list of top10 schlongrock bands, and also the defining qualities seperating "butt" from said "schlong"rock genre.

Glad Im reminded that blackie lawless was in Kane band. Might have forgot about that one. Wasp was definately schlong-metal Id say.

You sure have a brilliant mind for details John. I enjoy reading your posts. Apparently Peter Frampton was the guitarist on Jobriaths debut I read. Funny to see the Jobriath vids. Cracks me up. I kinda liked Jobriath though. Damn entertaining.

What are the best underated/unknown UK Glam acts. All kinds sprang up in the mid 70s. Im curious to find more Brett Smiley material, like how do you get the tune cherry hookers. I also wonder about his band vice.

Andy Mccoy s band briard I thought was a punk gem as well. Tuff to the songs from the other finnish album he did pre-hanoi. Still searching it out(no home internet which which makes this quite the task) .Theres some fuzzy youtube vids though.

.... Glam was over by the time VH's first LP came out (Early '78?). Whoever was still around from that era had moved on to other things , or reworked their sound , drastically ( "Love is Like Oxygen " , while a good song , is miles removed from "Hellraiser" or 'Ballroom Blitz". Of course , David Lee Roth got his schtick from Jim Dandy , so maybe , instead of , or along with , "Butt Rock" , we should call it "Schlong ROCK"..

IT WAS BEFORE THE PUNK REVIVAL HAPPENED A COUPLE OF YEARS LATER. MOST PEOPLE COULD'NT HAVE CARED LESS ABOUT THE 70'S PUNK STUFF. THE DICTATORS HAD PLAYED THE SAME VENUE TO ABOUT 150 PEOPLE , MAYBE LESS. BUT DDRand The CDs kicked out The Ramones/Heartbreakers jams , with a hint of VERY early Stones when I saw 'em.

I met Dee Dee , briefly , he was very nice , and very funny.....A friend of mine saw him try to change a C-note at a Qwick- E -  Mart.

    • I know , a lot of people did'nt like their version of "Journey" , I did , but I did'nt like everything C.J. sang on. I think I liked him doing "My Back Pages" more....I know The Nuge said "Tell that kid he sang it with a lot of attitude". John Drake , who sang on the original , lives here in Chicago. He's a good cat. I've only ever seen him sing , once. He recently sat in with Ted , AND Derek St. Holmes. Now , I am 30 + years past caring about
Ted's post - Amboy Dukes stuff , but , I would have gone to see that , if it was'nt , like $60.

I can listen to (and enjoy) EVERY Ramones album, but the worst for me by FAR is Brain Drain. I think Adios Amigos is great. I really don't get why so many Ramones fans hate that one. Lot of outside help in songwriting, but at least everyone played on it. Dee Dee never played bass on Brain Drain besides one song (daniel rey and Andy shernoff did) or Halfway to Sanity (daniel rey) Lease Favourite to Favourite, mine are (not counting acid eaters):

      -Brain Drain

      -Animal Boy

      -Mondo Bizarro

      -Half To Sanity

      -End of the Century

      -Too Tough to Die

      -Adios Amigos

      -Subterranean Jungle

      -Pleasant Dreams

      -Road To Ruin

      -S/T

      -Rocket To Russia

      -Leave Home

    • THAT'S WHAT ATTRACTED ME TO THE RAMONES , IN THE FIRST PLACE. I'D HEARD 'EM , OFF AND ON , FOR YEARS , BUT , "I WANNA BE SEDATED" SOUNDED LIKE KASENETZ/KATZ MEETS EDDIE COCHRAN , AND THAT , I GUESS , WAS MY EPIPHANY. I'm JUST old enough to remember Bubblegum , a bit.
When I heard "Little Willy" , it had that same thang , to me.

Their cover of the 1910 Fruitgum Company bubblegum classic " Indian Giver " always makes me grin like a 5 year old on Christmas morning. One of those tracks that makes my heart swell with pure joy.

      John Battles said:

I don't know why they did'nt do a Kasenetz/Katz number . Maybe they were tired of being viewed as "Bubblegum". The songs that we think are obvious , a lot of average Joe's would'nt have. I really liked hearing them do "Can't Seem ToMake You Mine" and "Out of Time". Word is , they considered doing "Get Me To tHE wORLD oN Time", but could'nt agree on an arrangement.  The funny thing , when Rush recorded their 60's covers album , they did a lot of the same songs . It would'nt have sound bad ,were it not for ol' helium voice.

"Acid Eaters" wasn't terrible, but it seemed to me like -- if the Ramones were going to do an entire album of 60's covers, they didn't really choose a ton of songs i'd have great interest in hearing them play. I mean, they couldn't toss us a bone with "Yummy Yummy Yummy" or something? It's just like...geez, i wish they would've taken requests or something.
