    • I used to come up with band names as a teen, often of one word, so see what did you come up with? I came up with this:

      Lathe
      Pants
      Bomb
      Combat 18 and a half
A House Full of Naked People
      Motorpsycho FC
      Tri-power & The Hemis

      Later:
      The Spindle Mounts
      The Whitewall Slicks

    • Right on! I'm missing out on a show because i'm one month shy of being old enough. Dammit, I'm pretty pissed, would have been a rad show. I've only listened to a couple songs by Sneaky Pinks. Nobunny is friends with Hunx and His Punx, listen to them? They're awesome.

    • Me too.

A few months ago finally seen him live with Bad Sports.

Was a great show and I was pleased that even songs from the Sneaky Pinks were played.

The Jeff of the Future Radio Show will be on the air and the web on Saturday November 2nd from 1:00-3:00PM EST. In addition to the usual garage-punk tunes, I will be playing brand new stuff from Harmonica Lewinski and Motorhead, and even a couple songs about Election Day.  There may even be a song about Daylight Savings Time.  You can listen at 89.7 WITR-FM in Rochester, NY or streaming live at http://witr.rit.edu.

    • Radio What Wave Playlist Oct 31/2013

Originally this was going to be a Halloween oriented show with the inclusion of a live to air with one man band Fireball Grant. Things changed when we got the news about Lou Reed....hence the following playlist.

      1. The Gruesomes....Bikers From Hell...from the Hey CD on Ricochet Sound. This is an 85 basement demo, called The Garbage Pail Kids Demo.

      2. The Beechnuts...Cycle Annie...from a 1962 compilation LP called Soundsville on Pickwick Records. No doubt that this is Lou Reed on vocals.

      3. The Regulators....Satellite Of Love....live recording from Halloween 1979 at the Polish Hall. Local combo heavily influenced by Lou and The Velvet Underground. Had to play this, so i could turn over the Soundsville compilation LP.

      4. The Roughnecks...You're Driving Me Insane...another song from the Soundsville compilations LP, and yep, it's Lou all right!

      5. Velvet Underground...There She Goes Again.

      6. Velvet Underground....White Light White Heat.

      7. Velvet Underground...What Goes On....

      8. Velvet Underground....Sweet Jane...

      9. Fireball Grant...Subway....live over the airwaves.

      10. Fireball Grant...90...as above.

      11. Fireball Grant...Jean Genie...as above.

      12. Fireball Grant...Perfect Score  as above

      13. Fireball Grant....York Hotel....as above.

      14. Fireball Grant...Alright Now...as above.

      15. Velvet Underground...We're Gonna Have A Read Good Time....from the 1969 Live Double LP.

      16. Velvet Underground....commercial. This is from the VU box set of singles on Sundazed Records.

      17. Lou Reed....Heroin....live recording from 12/26/72 in NYC.

      18. Lou Reed....Lady Day...from the Rock'n'Roll Animal LP. There's 2 Canadians on this one, Prakash John on bass and Pentti Glan on the drums. Another Canadian, Michael Fonfara has played keyboards for Lou on many releases. Michael is sometimes seen at This Ain't Hollywood in Hamilton Ontario playing killer keyboards!!

This was our annual fundraising show....ya it was mass confusion with a live to air and a Lou Reed special, but it's all for fun!!!   Big thanx to the following for pledging during the show; Rena, Kerry P, Cora L and Mark H!!  And thanx for all the emails, facebook messages and Heys!!! All appreciated.

Back again next week with more Lou Reed and lots of new material.

AND.....a Huge Thanx to all that said hello or came to yammer about music at the CHRW table at the record show on sunday!!! There's WAY more people out there digging this show than i ever imagined!!! Thanx Tons!!!

    • Still onmy to listen to list. I go through stages on Masters Apprentices. So loved in Australia -- so unknown to so many outside of Oz. *shrug* Still so much fun to watch the daggy film footage. :D

    • Anyone visited this place yet?

They had a bit of buzz going when they launched a few months ago, but there hasn't been much talk since then. Has anyone been there that cares to post a review of the place or share their experience? Their Facebook page talks a lot about their radio show and film screenings and DJ lessons for the kids; but I'm wondering about the records, of course....

Is it a good collection (both selection & condition)? Are they courting all genres? All formats (like 78 rpm and obscure old 45s)? Do their members take care of the records they borrow (or will their stock be destroyed in a year)? What's the perception from the locals: does the library have staying-power? How big is it? Is it run by people who actually know their way around the history of music on record (now over 135 years and counting)? Is it just piles of unplayable or unwanted junk that belongs in the trash? etc.

I like the idea a lot, but it seems like one of those things that could either be really cool or really disappointing. Just wondering what any visitors might have thought of the place. Since I'm 5,000 miles away, I might never get to see it (been to London once, and if I'm lucky I might get to go again sometime before I die).

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you can check out their Facebook page here, or hit up the search engines for various press articles and blog posts.

If you live in or near London, you can find them here: Unit 1 Foulden Road, Stoke Newington, N16 7UR, London

Would love to hear a first-hand experience from a fellow vinyl junkie!

    • The second Blues Magoos record , the second Electric Prunes record , the first Moby Grape record , the first two Blue Cheer records , and as far as records that have an undeserved bad rep , the last Chocolate Watchbandand 13th Floor Elevators records.

"Spoken word "- Leroy and Skillet "The Goodly Soul", "9 or 10 Times a Day" , anything by La Wanda Page or Rudy Ray Moore , and almost anything by Redd Foxx (His worst still beats today's "Talent" at their best.).

    • October 30, 2013 3:19 PM CDT
    • .....ok , I looked up the Face Book Page. The movie is currently "On Tour'. I saw it listed in nearly every major market , except Chicago. Maybe we got washed by the blood of the lamb. One innacuracy you can't avoid , Iggy looks like he did in 1972 - 73. WTFity FUCK?!

CHEETAH IS A CAB DRIVER , CHEEEEEEETAH IS A CAB DRIVER , NOOOOWWWWW......

    • October 30, 2013 3:05 PM CDT
    • You saw The CBGB's movie? I had'nt heard anything about it since MIKEL mentioned Eugene O'Connor , the pissed - off , Punk - hating Cab Driver some six months ago.  I know what you mean about coming up with laundry lists of historical innacuracies , tho' Spike Lee beat these guys to the punch with "Summer of Sam", CBGBs Punk rockers with giant mohawks , liberty spikes , and green hair , in 1977 ! I asked my Sister - in - Law , who went to CB's , Max's , etc. , as early as 1976 , if she EVER saw a mohawk in New York in '77. She said MAYBE RICHIE STOTTS WAS WORKING ON HIS VERY FIRST ONE , BUT , IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A FLAT , TRAVIS BICKEL NUMBER. That's so weird about using Joey's solo material. I'd have rather just heard a band trying to approximate The Ramones sound , if they could'nt get the rights to their back catalogue , even though I like Joey's posthumous solo albums.

Maybe , just like "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" , this movie will (Or has?) bomb (ed) so badly , that in later years it'll make the rounds at Mdnight Movies (Already an almost non - entity , I know...) , and "enhancements" like John Waters Odorama cards that smell like urine , will be passed out.

    • October 30, 2013 3:10 PM CDT
    • I hope they dedicate it to Lou Reed's Memory.

    • October 30, 2013 2:32 PM CDT
    • Wipeout ! Not much is ever said about Lou and John's Pickwick Record days. There's probably a book , there.

I still like The Downliners Sect's version , better , but both versions are historical....

When I first saw The Sect , they said they just lucked onto a demo of "Smile" and decided to cover it.

    • MIKE l.   It could be spiritual intervention.

    • October 29, 2013 7:51 PM CDT
    • I'VE SEEN THIS BEFORE. IT'S EVEN FUNNIER THE SECOND TIME AROUND. LUX WAS , AND IVY IS , A VEGETARIAN , SO , I FIGURED THAT WAS WHY THEY HAD SOME FUN WITH THE MCDONALD'S APPLICATION.......WHEN IN REALITY , THEIR BURGERS ARE MORE GRISTLE THAN MEAT.

The Mrs. Grindsnatch joke might have been a reference to Julien Griensnatch , who briefly replaced Bryan Gregory....no , I don't think that was her REAL name , either.....

    • October 29, 2013 10:35 AM CDT
    • Has anyone seen or looking forward to seeing AKA Doc Pomus.  Heard a interview with the movie 's creator on NPR.  Sounded like a good one.

Here is the movies website http://akadocpomus.com/

I always thought "Young Blood" was one of the best radio friendly suggestive songs ever.

    • October 28, 2013 7:26 PM CDT
    • Here's one , the New Orleans Jangle Punk / Garage band (Who did a very good set , recently at the Ponderosa Stomp.)

recorded "Rebecca Rodifer" 1n 1967 , a song about a back - alley abortion , a good 10 years before The Sex Pistols did "Bodies".....possibly a bit more graphic , too. They lifted the chorus from The Everly Bros.'  "Gone , Gone , Gone " , too. Look it up on You Tube.

    • October 28, 2013 6:28 PM CDT
    • I just thought of another Un-PC garage rock ditty:

"Come into My Mouth" by the Headcoatees.

I could never look at Holly Golightly the same after hearing that record!

The flip side "Fish Pie" is a pre-war blues style double entendre number.  Good stuff. If I recall correctly, it came out on Sympathy for the Record Industry (SFTRI) in the mid-90's.
