.....and it was'nt even "Merry Christmas , Everybody!". No , it was the Proto - Power Ballad , "Everyday". Could'nt tell you what the product was , but , who cares?
Slade is on American Television for the first time in probably 30 years ("Run , Run Away" , their brief major chartbuster , and I guess , "My , Oh My" , briefly got them on American Bandstand and other US idiot box shows.). It almost sounds like an uncannily spot - on remake with Noddy on vocals , but , maybe I was still in shock.
I know this does'nt sound like major breaking news , but , I thought it was worth a post. Listen for it. Our friends in The UK , of course , can listen to "Merry Christmas , Everybody" on the radio.
HA ! HA! It's still pretty rough. Seems like Warren could have released it , anyway , as a gamble. See how the fans like it.
I meant to say what *they intended to release. not *I intended to release. haha
Yeah! That footage rules! They’re making a documentary about them. Japanese release only I assume though.
The new released Egg Studio recordings are the slickest teengenerate recordings I ever heard. Apparently that’s what I intended to release as Get Action, but Tim Warren turned it down because it was too slick. So they went back to Japan and re-recorded the album to 4 track, with all the pods in the red….which ended up being the Get Action album.
Here’s a track from the egg studios session. Pretty damn slick by Teengenerate standards!

I'M - A SCARED , BUT , i SUPPOSE i should have a listen.......I LIKED JOEY AND HOLLY BETH VINCENT'S TAKE ON " I GOT YOU , BABE" , THO , IN HINDSIGHT , I'D HAVE LIKED TO HAVE HEARD THEM RECORD SOME ORIGINAL TUNES , TOO. AT THE PONDEROSA STOMP , THE SLOTHS ACTUALLY PLAYED A SONG THAT HOLLY WROTE FOR JOEY , AND TRIED TO GET HIM TO DO , BUT , HE DIED BEFORE HE COULD RECORD IT.
You must have seen the Teengenerate footage that's going around , from The Fireside Bowl in Chicago. I was at that show , and another one the same evening , and , they were great , but , I never liked their records too much. I think they would've sounded better if they had a half - decent production , I DON'T MEAN LIKE SLICK 80'S POP Production , but not so intentionally bad. The Lo - Fi thing was already on it's way out. But , that's just me , "Unpopular Opinions". I felt the same way about Black Flag , and I do , now , about Jim Jones Revue. A great band .....IF everything were'nt in the red.
If the extreme volume and bad production worked , I'd be all over it. But , even Blue Cheer did'nt fall back on THAT much excess when they started touring again . That said , while I did like Teengenerate , most of the other Crypt stuff that was not BFTG , or other , related reissues , barring The Devil Dogs , I TRIED TO DIG , BUT , COULD'NT......Tim seemed to be down on modern Garage bands , like there were NONE to suit his taste , anymore. There must have been a few. He did catch up with The Gories , when they had one foot out the door.
Teengenerate! Crypt finally released their 1994 Egg Studio session. Can't wait until it comes in. After Ramones, Teengenerate were a life changing discovery.
Helen Love is Electro Indie Pop from Wales. Joey Ramone was a big fan. He even dueted with her on an earlier release in the 90's.

THE RAMONES DEF. INFLUENCED THE JAMC , BEFORE THEY WENT SOFT. I STILL LIKE THEM , BUT SOME OF THEIR EARLY STUFF WAS PAINFUL ! I NEVER THOUGHT THEY'D MAKE IT IN THE US, BUT , I ALSO THOUGHT DWIGHT YOAKUM WAS TOO COUNTRY TO GET INTO THE COUNTRY CHARTS.
HELEN LOVE , I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH.....OH , GOD. WHO DID'NT THE RAMONES INSPIRE? ANTISEEN , FIFI AND THE MACH III , VAGINISMUS , JEFF DAHL , DICKIES , TEENGENERATE , X , LISA DOLL , NERVEBREAKERS, NIKKI AND THE CORVETTES , RAMONETURES , ABBA ABBA HEY , AND , WELL , SO MANY OTHERS. THO' JOHNNY RAMONE VEHEMENTLY DENIED BEING INFLUENCED BY TEH VELVETS , OR EVEN KNEW WHO THEY WERE UNTIL AFTER THE RAMONES FORMED , THE RAMONES INFLUENCED SOME UNLIKELY BANDS , AS DID THE VELVETS.

A sea of copycat bands!
Some are actually really good though. The Riverdales were always pretty consistent,
HEAD were really good too.
In terms of indie....I can hear Ramones in the Jesus and Mary Chain
So do I, especially their early stuff.
if you've ever seen the Thunders' docunentary , "Born To Lose" ,by Lech Kowalski , but , apparently never finished ( Though shown , here , in Chicago , and in Detroit and NYC in three different versions , in or around 1997.) , much of it reads liek a reality show , but one that does'nt make an oxymoron of the term , like all these "Reality'' shows on TV do , today. Kowalski tried to cover his friend , Thunders' life and career without pulling any punches.
Similarly , I would LOVE to see him cover the upcoming fiasco over his estate , which was always worth more than even he had been told , when he was still alive. Sylvain Sylvain told me, the minute Johnny dropped dead , he was called in , as were the other surviving ex - New York Dolls , to recieve his FIRST - EVER royalty check from Mercury Records. And , as I recall , it was for a whomping $3000 ! OK , The Dolls had no hit records (Tho' the article states that "Personality Crisis " was a hit - HUH ?!) . but between reissues (Admittedly sporadic until the '90s.) and publishing for cover versions of their songs , and just the sales from the first go 'round , Thunders , and all The former Dolls , should have had the makings of a decent - sized estate.
OK , WE KNOW WHERE MOST OF HIS MONEY WOULD HAVE GONE , BUT , SYLVAIN TOLD ME THAT UNTIL JOHNNY DIED , THEY WERE TOLD THERE WAS NO MONEY. WTF?!
I'd forgotten that his Sister had passed on , and did'nt know Vito was out of the joint (He's interviewed in the movie , from Prison .). HE HAD ANOTHER SON , NOT Dino , as I recall , because he's literally told , on camera , that Johnny Thunders was his Father, in the movie. I think Dino always knew . I remember reading that he had 3 Sons and a Daughter. yes , this should get very interesting. But , it's not surprising that , with someone minding the store , Johnny's estate should now be worth a lot more than when he checked out.
The article also blunders , majorly , by saying The Dolls broke up in 1974. They did'nt officially break up until 1975 , and David and Sylvain kept it going under the original name , or several variations , until 1976 , maybe even very early '77 (?), until David went solo , and Syl played in his band for a while.
My only question is, why do we not have a "Thunders & Sons" reality show?

Ugh.
I guess it does , but , in their time , they stood out like a sore thumb that'd been bludgeoned with a sledge hammer. When I first saw them , in 1990 , everybody there , but me , was cowering in the very back of the venue. They were definitely into their own thing , and most people did'nt get it until after they split up. They were not of their time , and they were seldom taken seriously.
Ya, sounds like something a band would say.
IF YOU ASKED THE GORIES , THEY MIGHT SAY "BUT WE WERE'NT TRYING TO BE MODERN OR RELEVANT ! ". Just sayin'.
...then not too long after that I heard I Know You Be Houserockin' by The Gories. That blew my mind even more. So you can play this music today and still make it modern and relevant?!!!

Definitely Here Are The Sonics. I clearly remember hearing Strychnine at my friends house. Changed my life.
I thought i was the only one that didn't likeTurbonegro.......everyone says i should like them, but nope, doesn't do anything for me.
John....I've seen The Lyres many times over the years, but never DMZ. If like you, i saw DMZ first, i probably would be thinking the same thing as you, as DMZ were a huge kick to the balls for me when i first heard their records!! They blew away so many bands from their era and still stand above to this day!!

Radio What Wave Playlist Dec 5 2013; Graphic Underground: London 1977-1990 Show
On this week’s broadcast, we did a special on the Graphic Underground: London 1977-1990 show as we had the curator of the museum exhibit, and author of the book, Brian Lambert on air as special guest.
Graphic Underground: London 1977-1990 was a McIntosh Gallery exhibit (curated by Brian Lambert) housed at the Forest City Gallery here in London from Oct to Dec 2012. The exhibit was the posters, zines and ephemera that was created here in London between 1977 and 1990, that accompanied the music scene happening here concurrently. Hundreds of posters, zines and other assorted artwork were dusted off and dug out of who knows where to be on display at the Forest City Gallery. Attendance records were set during the 6 week run of the exhibit.
Opening night at Forest City Gallery
Accompanying the exhibit is a museum type book, with the same name as the art show. The book is set to be released this weekend at APK, between the hours of 2 and 7PM as the author will be doing a book signing.. Well over 200 pages, this book is literally packed with hundreds of pictures of posters, zines and vintage pictures of some of the people involved in the scene.
And this edition of Radio WW is only music recorded in London between 1977 and 1990 with almost all of it being unreleased and never before broadcast on the radio or elsewhere.
Ralph Alfonso, Mike Neiderman and Liz Worth (author of Treat Me Like Dirt) in London 2/14/10
The Zellots playing at a street festival, summer 1980
Markii and Rooster looking completely sweet, Cedar Lounge 1982?
UIC, Shillelagh? Lucan Ontario 1984
And that’s a wrap as we’ve run outta time, but certainly not tunes as we’ll continue in this direction next week. Huge Thanx to Brian Lambert for taking the time to come on air and talk about the Graphic Underground: London 1977-1990 book. Anyone with even a passing interest in this, is well advised to pick up the book as it’s sure to be sold out.
Thanx for all the phone-ins, emails, facebook messages and Heys!!!!

YEAH , tHE bIGiTCH vOL. 1 COVERS A WIDE CROSS SECTION OF "BIRD' SONGS.
THEN , IF IT HELPS , THERE WAS : RAMONES - GO LIL' CAMARO , GO.
OAK RIDGE BOYS - ELVIRA
DEVIANTS - PAPA OO MAO MAO
MICKEY LEE LANE - SHAGGY DOG.
BOBBY AIREDALE (sic) - The Bird is The Word (Diff. song.)
YEAH ! FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW , THAT WHOLE SHOW IS ON YOU TUBE , ONE SONG AT A TIME.
DICKIE STILL HAD THOSE GREAT DRUM FLOURISHES FROM PLAYING IN THE REFORMED EDDIE AND THE SHOWMEN , BEL - AIRS , ETC.....
HIS VOICE SOUNDS SO POWERFUL . HE OPTED OUT OF THE PREVIOUS STANDELLS ' REUNION (MID - LATE 80's) BECAUSE HE OPTED TO
DO SOUL - ROCK MUSIC WITH THE DODD SQUAD. I FOUND OUT , HE HAD A WEDNESDAY NIGHT ENGAGEMENT AT THIS SHITHOLE BAR NEAR MY BROTHER'S PLACE , WHEN HE LIVED ON LAGUNA BEACH. I MET DODD ,BRIEFLY , AT THIS SHOW (above) , THE CAVESTOMP IN '99 , AND I TOLD HIM , I WOULD HAVE GONE TO SEE HIM AT THAT BAR , BUT THAT WEDNESDAY WHEN I WAS THERE WAS CHRISTMAS ! I THINK , DOING SOUL MUSIC , THOUGH , WAS GOOD FOR HIS "ROCK" VOICE. REAL SINGERS GET BETTER WITH AGE.
Yeah, "Rari" has always been one of my very favorite Standells tracks. Check out some really inspired singing and drumming from Dick Dodd in this clip shot at the 1999 Cavestomp.
The Angry Breed , Somepeople may not recognize this as is the longer , superior , version of "Rari" , which was included in Sundazed's great 4 CD reissue series.....Which , incidentally , does'nt get much feedback , since it came out almost 20 years ago , though it does'nt seem so long ago , now. It has , collectively , tens of bonus tracks , inc. "Poor Man's Prison" , also recorded by Gene Vincent , "Misty Lane" also recorded by you - know who , and one of the best versions of "Batman" , ever , just for a start. Thanks for putting that up.
