The Damned followed by the Ramones. Mostly because they both have released so many damned (get it?) records and 7" sleeve variations etc etc that sucker a collector nerd like me to buy. No picture of me, but a set a photos I'd snapped for another forum. I have to give credit though to an old friend who sold me his entire Damned 7" collection back in the 80's. I knew it hurt him, but he knew it was going to a good home. That's where a good chunk of my Damned and Capt. Sensible singles came from.

    • Elvis P. and Neil Young .....

No need to write a single word about the KING. He will always be my " light in the dark "

Neil Young is so much " part of my life " ... he writes the songs I'll never have talent for ....

    • Show #366: "Bands & Artists Starting With M, Part 6"

Every 3 weeks I do a series of shows I call the "Alphabetical Series" where I randomly draw a letter of the alphabet from a hat. Whatever letter I draw, I take all the bands and artists in my collection (from the 50's, 60's & 70's only) that start with that letter and play them in strict alphabetical order one by one until I run out of time. This week I drew the letter "M". This is the sixth time I've drawn the letter "M", so I will start from where I left off on show #5 (which was with The Joe Meek Orchestra). So, tune in tonight (Friday at 10:00pm EST) to hear 3 hours of bands and artists that start with "M" like: Mefisto, Mehrpouya, Mel & Tim, Melanie, Gil Melle, The Mello-Kings, Melody Fair, Tina & David Meltzer, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, The Members, Members Of Time, The Menaces, Mendelbaum, Carlos Mendes, Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66, Mendoza, Marianne Mendt, The Menn, Mephistopheles, The Mercenaries, Mercy, Merkin, The Merlynn Tree, Jason Merrick & The Finders, Merriday Park, and many others!!

    •  It'd be interesting , though , to hear what Glam - influenced bands did come out of Australia. There must have been some that played the part , but , maybe did'nt look it .....

I was just thinking about how , in my opinion , "The Raver"by The Troggs sounds like an early blueprint for UK Glam , though they seem to be trying to incorporate an "Aussie" hookline.

John Kongos , from South Africa , was very influential on the early Glam Rock stuff , too . "Neanderthal Man" by Hotlegs is also regarded as one of the early proto - Glam toons. There ought to be an international Glam compat some point , as countries you'd never associate with that sound , had at least a couple of songs that fit the bill.

    • just picked up the t.rex unchained box set - 8 cds of demos and rarities... i admit it, im a t.rex tragic... grew up on him and sweet and slade ... Marc Bolan was one of my first heroes... in australia where glam was a big hit but we didnt have many of our own bands picking up on it... maybe because of the pub scene here being more raucous and rock and roll... not a lot of dressing up! wasnt the done thing!  politics etc prob made a difference too...

    • Playlist Mar 22/2012   Special 30th Anniversary of Uranus live to air on CHRW from The Embassy Hotel   3/22/82

We had Uranus guitarist/vocalist Jack Whiteside on as a special guest to talk about what he remembered of the live broadcast, the songs we played, Uranus and present and future projects.

Here's Jack onair with the Uranus LP that he didn't want to be in a picture with...Jack is on the left on the LP cover.

      1. Gilligan's Island....Uranus....from their 1980 7". This version was played on CFNY from Toronto many many times and this is the only song that many people know by Uranus.

      2. Shake Some Action....live Mar 22/ 1982 from The Embassy Hotel in London Ontario. This was the third night of a 3 night gig and the following songs are all from the same gig.

      3. Pink Bedroom

      4. Secret Agent Man

      5. Rave On

      6. Boomerang

      7. Uranium Rock

      8. Industrial Love....Jack wrote this one for a punk  rock play written by Jane Foy called Sid's Kids

      9. Ka Ka Ska...an original by Frank Ridsdale that showed up on a What Wave tape many years ago.

      10. Workin' For The Man

      11. You're So Square...this one made #3 in London in 1980...Uranus were probably the last London combo to score a top 10 hit on AM radio here in Canada.

      12. Ned The Killer Smelt

      13. Slow Down

      14. 5 Bucks

      15. Gilligan's Island

      16. High School

      17. Rock Me Baby

      18. Things......Orrie Hitt Machine....a demo that Jack recorded many years ago

      19. Killer Inside Me....Orrie Hitt Machine....another demo of Jack's

Huge Thanx to Jack Whiteside for taking the time  to come on air and yammer about a live to air from exactly 30 years ago!! And thanx to all of the call-ins as we had quite a few during this show.

Next week we might have some special guests depending on sound check at a venue here in London

    • Yeah, I gotta agree with this post.

If you're looking for cheap options then look at the Guitar Fetish site that The Ungodly 77's pointed out. The GFS pickups they sell are worth looking at.

I will say after fitting a lot of splittable Humbuckers into guitars over the years that none of them have sounded like that true single coil sound.

      7jdh14 said:

Swapping the pickups will change the tone, but it's not gonna make your SG sound like a Legacy. There's a lot more to the Legacy tone than just the pickups.
